Even though theCall of Duty: Modern Warfarereboot’s existence had only been confirmed inthe game’s official announcementlast year, it appears that at least some of its content could have been predicted by previousCall of Dutyinstallments. Most notably, this includes 2009’sCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which includes a brow-raising reference to 2019’sCall of Duty: Modern Warfare.
In last year’sCall of Dutygame, there isa mission called “Piccadilly,“which puts players in the boots of Kyle Garrick as he responds to a terrorist attack in London. The mission acts as an intense introduction to both the player character andCall of Duty: Modern Warfare’s version of fan-favoriteCall of Dutycharacter Captain Price. This mission, the second in the game’s campaign, was apparently foreshadowed inCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

According to Reddit user NuclearFPS, who took a screenshot while playingCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, a newspaper rendered in-game by Infinity Ward shows an image of the location in Piccadilly and details an event of terrorism that took place at the location. An image of the newspaper can be seen below.
As can be seen in the newspaper clipping above, the story details a bombing that had occurred at the Picadilly Circus, which appeared inCall of Duty: Modern Warfare. WithinCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, these events had been linked to one of the game’s antagonists, Vladimir Makarov. Makarov’s decision to bomb the Piccadilly Circus was evidently spurred by the killing of Imran Zakhaev in 2007’sCall of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Further, the news story indicates that Makarov was going to continue his “campaign of terror” in Russia, as its government had been occupied by “weak men.”
All in all, this is fairly interesting since 2009’sCall of Dutyentry essentially foreshadowed what 2019’sCall of Dutyinstallment would bring to the table. Not only does theModern Warfarereboot’s endinghave some of 2007’sCall of Duty 4: Modern Warfarein it, but 2019’sModern Warfarecan be seen in some ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
This does make one wonder if any other content fromCall of Duty: Modern Warfarewas foreshadowed in the events of the originalCall of Duty: Modern Warfaretrilogy. Perhaps there are clues in the original games' campaigns or even theirmultiplayer maps. Frankly, it might be worth considering other content and anecdotes in the originalModern Warfaretrilogy like the story told in the newspaper as being linked to future games in this series ofModern Warfaretitles.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfareis now available on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
