One of the major factors of the success thatMinecrafthas enjoyed is undoubtedly the massive replayability of the sandbox title. With new content periodically added to the game to keep things fresh, there is seemingly always something new for fans to explore and enjoy. Sometimes Mojang brings in new blocks and mobs to experiment with, while other times it reworks longtime elements such as monster spawners.
With that being said, huge amounts of the discourse surroundingMinecraftconcerns what could still be potentially added to the game, and craftable monster spawners are a fascinating hypothetical addition. Given the lengths players go to farm certain resources and the sheer utility of monster spawners, allowing players to place them wherever they want could have huge positive implications forMinecraft.

Minecraft’s Monster Spawners
Monster spawners have long been a staple ofMinecraft, originally being added to the game in 2010. One of the most unique blocks in the title, spawners are cage-like cubes that spawn solely in specific hostile areas such asdungeons or Nether Fortresses, which continuously spawn a specific hostile mob until the player breaks the spawner or pacifies it by surrounding it with torches.
While the primary purpose of a monster spawner is to make areas with valuable loot more difficult and dangerous for the player to navigate, spawners can additionally help players to farm specific mobs of their valuable resources, such asBlazes in the Nether. Despite being in the game for so long, monster spawners have seen little to no change since their initial conception over a decade ago, so it might be time for a significant change.

Craftable Monster Spawners in Minecraft
One of the most frustrating aspects of monster spawners is that there is currently no way of obtaining them and placing them where the player wishes, which is an obvious point of potential change for the block. Allowing players to manually create monster spawners and place them anywhere could be a very welcome change, but would have to involve some challenging pre-requisites to make this possible. As it stands, many more seasoned players bend the rules ofMinecraftto create mob farmsto farm the mobs of their useful materials. Mojang might want to avoid making mob farms overly easy to make, since it could drastically lower the stakes ofMinecraftSurvival play.
Given the huge utility of being able to farm a consistent stream of certain monsters, the required materials to create a spawner would have to be difficult to acquire. Rather than simply making the spawner using iron ingots or even diamonds, players might need to gather a rare resource from the Nether to make the cage out of, likecrying obsidian. Another good way to achieve some balance would be to make the crafting recipe of a specific monster spawner require the mob head of theMinecraftmonster in question.
Mob heads inMinecraftare notoriously difficult to gather, and having them be a core ingredient for monster spawners would finally give the items some concrete utility that is not purely cosmetic. Even though this would be a fairly arduous task to achieve, making monster spawners have their own crafting recipe would do wonders for the collection of certain resources, and would give a tangible and more official feel to practices that many players have been employing for years by resculpting dungeons to suit their purposes.
Minecraftis available now for Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
