Summary
AMinecraftplayer has built an incredible retractable house using Slime, Pistons, and more. Since the release ofMinecraft, gamers have come up with unique ways of using Pistons to their advantage, but this house may feature the most effective utility outside of farming.
There are over 150 differenttypes of blocks inMinecraft. These blocks can be combined in unique builds, farms, rail systems, and more. Redstone adds even more complexity to the process, allowing players to automate many aspects of the game when paired with the right devices. Fans have made Redstone calculators, computers, and elevators with the material, and continue to conceive of different ways of using it. This player effectively paired Redstone with Pistons and other blocks to create a self-building and dismantling home.

Reddit user Towsti recently shared a clip of their retractableMinecrafthouse. With the system beginning underground, a combination of countless blocks slowly forms the house by pushing wood, TNT, and Cobblestone blocks to the surface. The mechanism does this with the help ofMinecraft’s Redstone, Pistons, Observer blocks, Slime, Honey, Glazed Terracotta, and more. The Pistons move the sticky blocks into the building materials for Towsti’s home. These blocks grab the necessary items and carry them upward one block at a time. The system then deconstructs the house using the same method, and it’s all activated with a button that turns on a Redstone Lamp. The video concludes by showing the entire process isolated from the Seed around it.
TheMinecraftPistonand Observer blocks are essential to automating this operation. The Piston moves everything into place after receiving a quick Redstone pulse from the observer by being paired with the Slime and Honey blocks. This 8x8x8 house takes just over two minutes to construct and deconstruct, with the building process taking longer. According to Towsti, the size of the house was intentional to optimize the build speed. The Reddit user has shared their self-building house through a download, allowing fans to dissect it and see every last detail. The Reddit user credits another player for the self-returning engine design that breaks down and retracts the house.
With the retractable house taking two to three weeks to design, players may have to endure some trial and error if they try to replicate it. Because Towsti is working on another build using the same techniques, they may share even more impressive retractable shelters. AsMojang continues to updateMinecraft, such builds may be easier to create in the future.
