Unfortunately, because ofCOVID-19 restrictions, Gamescom is exclusively moving to a digital format for the stream. However, some good news to come from this is that Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda will compose an original theme song on Twitch for the event a week ahead of time.

Mike Shinoda is the co-vocalist for the multi-platinumGrammy-Award winning rock band Linkin Parkwith a BA degree in Illustration and Doctorate of Humane Letters from the Art Center College of Design. Shinoda, who is also a gamer in his own right, has been taking to Twitch this summer to live-stream his creative process and collaborate with fans to make songs. Shinoda even released those works as albums titledDropped Frames, Volume 1, andDropped Frames, Volume 2.

The song Mike Shinoda creates in his stream will be used to promote Gamescom: Opening Night Live until the day of the event. If that is not enough hype for the event, fans should also get ready for the 20 other game updates and trailers lined up for the event. Such announcements include the world premiere ofThe Ancient Gods Part One, which is thefirst campaign expansion forDOOM Eternalfrom id Software and Bethesda. Gamescom should be detailing updates on planned game announcements for the event in the coming days.

Mike Shinoda’s stream date for his composition is at Wednesday, August 12th starting at 1 PM ET and 10 AM PT on his Twitch profile. The last time Mike Shinoda attended Gamescom was about ten years ago to promote Linkin Park’s work scoring the gameMedal of Honor,so this will be the perfect way to welcome him back into the event with open arms. Even host and producer Geoff Keighley is stoked for Shinoda’s inclusion for the event, excited that he is taking the time to give fans a front-row seat on his writing process as a way to celebrate games. Hopefully, this will be one of the many good distraction gamers need right now to get through these hard times.
