Summary
Fans are now getting a better look at theMarvel’s Spider-Man 2versions of Times Square and Brooklyn in a series of new screenshots. One of the many things that Insomniac’sSpider-Mangames are praised for is the fleshed-out, open-world setting of New York City, which features plenty of landmarks, side quests, and rooftops for the legendary superhero to swing across usingSpider-Man’s equally acclaimed navigation system. The originalMarvel’s Spider-Mankept its focus on New York’s main Manhattan Island, while 2020’sSpider-Man: Miles Moralesadded the neighborhood of Harlem.
The upcomingMarvel’s Spider-Man 2will feature even more of New York City to explore, as Insomniac confirmed that the sequel’s map will be twice the size of its predecessor. In addition to the previously featured Manhattan,Spider-Man 2’s game world will include Queens and Brooklyn, two very significant locations in both real life and the lore of Marvel Comics. The latter was briefly showcased in May’sMarvel’s Spider-Man 2gameplay trailer, which saw Peter Parker defend his childhood home from a squad of Kraven the Hunter’s mercenaries using his new Symbiote costume.

Insomniac recently gave players an even better look at some of the new locations being introduced inMarvel’s Spider-Man 2in the latest New York Times feature on the game. A series of detailed screenshots depict the bustling Times Square, the fabled Cony Island, and Brooklyn’s historic Grand Army Plaza arch. All of these famous landmarks are rendered in an impressive level of detail, demonstrating both Insominac’s commitment to capturing New York City and the PlayStation 5’s technical capabilities.
In past interviews, Insomniac Games creative director Bryan Intihar stated that his team wanted to makeSpider-Man 2’s new locationsfeel different from the Manhattan area utilized in the previous games. For example, Queens feels more like a smaller neighborhood with shorter buildings that make great use ofSpider-Man 2’s new Web Wings. Not every part of the real-life New York will be included inSpider-Man 2though, as Insomniac couldn’t secure the rights to use the famous Chrysler Building in-game.
Regardless,Marvel’s Spider-Man 2will offer plenty of new territory for players to swing through as either Peter Parker or Miles Morales, and there is much speculation on howthe newly-added Queens and Brooklyn locationswill impact the game’s side content. Fans won’t have to wait too much longer to jump into the virtual Big Apple, asMarvel’s Spider-Man 2is a little over a month away as of this writing.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2launches on October 20, exclusively for PlayStation 5.
