Marvel’s Avengers, the new action-RPG brawler from Crystal Dynamics and Square Enix, is a game that borrows heavily from looter-shooter titles. This becomes particularly obvious once the main storyline is done, and the grind for high-tier loot begins.Marvel’s Avengersis not shy about its focus on RPG systems, and players have a wide selection of customization options at their command.

While better gear may not have a visual effect, it can really change how a hero plays. One of the best ways to get top-tier gear is through DNA Keys. These special loot items are hard to find, but can be used to unlock DNA Chests containing some of the best equipment in the game. Fortunately, it is possible to farm these Keys, but only on veryspecific daily missions.

Taking Down Villains

There is only one kind of enemy inMarvel’s Avengersthat drops DNA Keys, and that’s human bosses. Mutant or Monstrous villains, like Abomination, have no chance of dropping them, whereas villains like Taskmaster do. Like all bosses, these are often some of the hardest fights in the game, but with the correct leveling and gear it is possible to quickly take them down.

However, waiting to stumble across human villains isn’t a viable farming technique. Players looking to build up a stock of DNA Keys should instead work on their daily missions. These can be acquired from the Faction Coordinators, oneon the Chimeraand the other at the Inhuman’s base. Both offer the Villain Sector Daily Mission. This mission always takes place on the same map, and ends with a battle against Taskmaster. By repeating these missions, players can earn up to two DNA Keys a day.

Unlocking the Vault

Once players have acquired a DNA Key, they’ll need to find somewhere to use it. DNA Chests aren’t easy to stumble on, as they only appear, for now at least, in one specific mission type. Vault Missions themselves can also be difficult to acquire, as they need the player to have found a Vault Coordinate. They also don’t unlock until the player has found the SHIELD Cache in thecampaign mission Stark Realities.

Once a player has a Vault Coordinate, a new Vault Mission will appear on their mission map. The mission itself is quite simple, first using a tracker to locate the vault, then defending a number of objectives from enemy attacks. At the end of the mission the vault will open, allowing players to get at the chests inside. There’ll always bea DNA Chestamong them, which contains randomized loot with a much better chance of high-tier equipment.

Marvel’s Avengersis out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions also in development.
