Marvel’s Avengershas given fans of Captain America a new skin to fight the forces of evil in. This latest offering continues Crystal Dynamics’ consistent drip-feed of new cosmetics forMarvel’s Avengers, and it may be of particular interest not just to fans interested in a rather different look for Steve Rogers, but for fans of thePlanet Hulkcomics.
Not to be confused with the originalIncredible Hulkstoryline of the same name that was loosely adapted inThor: Ragnarok, thePlanet Hulkcomic series was a 2015 offshoot ofMarvel’s multiverse-destroyingSecret Warsstoryline. Among the characters it introduced was an alternate universe version of Steve who ends up in Battleworld, a patchwork reality made from pieces of broken universes, and has to battle his way across a hostile domain inhabited by numerous wild Hulks.

AndMarvel’s Avengersplayers can take that gladiatorial version of Captain America for a spin. Known simply as “Gladiator,” the new skin is now available in the game’s marketplace, followingHulk’sThor: Ragnarokskinas the latest cosmetic inspired byPlanet Hulkto be added to the game.
Gone is the usual clean-shaven Cap with his typical military tactical suit. In his place is a Steve Rogers decked out in medieval armor and sporting long hair and a beard. Looking sort of like Thor’s long-lost brother, Gladiator Steve still boasts his shield, though hardcore comic fans may be disappointed to see that he’s missing the battleaxe he wielded inPlanet Hulk. Even so, the new skin should pair nicely with therecently added magic Iron Man skin, Hulk’s gladiator outfit, most Thor skins, and Jane Foster’s Mighty Thor.
There are actually quite a few treats for Captain America players inMarvel’s Avengers’ marketplace right now. He’s the featured hero in the game’s store until October 27, which means players get 50% off on nearly all Cap-centric cosmetic items. This includes most ofMarvel’s Avengers’ Captain America skins, with the exceptions of the new Gladiator skin andCap’s MCU outfits.
Whether slick new cosmetics like Gladiator Captain America will be enough to keep players coming back toMarvel’s Avengersin light of the game’s rocky lifespan and content roadmap will likely vary from player to player. Even if it doesn’t, though, fans of Steve Rogers at least have plenty to look forward to in the near future thanks toSkydance’s currently untitled Marvel game starring Cap and Black Pantherin World War 2. At any rate, Marvel fans shouldn’t be running low on opportunities to swing Steve’s shield around any time soon.
Marvel’s Avengersis available for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
