In a surprising announcement, Wizards of the Coast revealed that it actually plans to experiment with a different release cadence for the upcoming set. This means that players won’t begrinding away at digital Magic Arena pre-release eventsfor a full week before the tabletop version of the set is available in game stores. Instead, things will be a bit flip flopped…

Our upcoming set, Streets of New Capenna, will be available August 04, 2025—with a twist. We’re exploring different release cadences, and so for this set only, we’ll be aligning our digital release with the tabletop release. This means your first chance to experience Streets of New Capenna will be with your local game store for Prereleases starting April 22, followed by the digital release on Magic: The Gathering Arena and Magic: The Gathering Online April 28.

At this point, very few additional details about the upcoming set are available. New Capenna is a brand-new plane, so players don’t have any old lore to explore or previous sets to consider for returning mechanics. A few pieces of key art and hints about story have been dropped, but in general the set is still shrouded in mystery for the time being. Instead, everyone will just need to wait for spoiler season to arrive before they can understand what the spring 2022 set has in store for the collectible card game and its meta scene.
