A contestant on the hit Netflix dating showLove is Blindproved his nerdy video game bona fides by suggesting to his future fiancee that they name their children afterElden Ringbosses.Elden Ringwas written in part by acclaimed fantasy author andGame of Thronescreator George R.R. Martin. Martin came up with a lot ofElden Ring’s backstory and even came up with many of the ironic yet frustratingly similar character names players encounter in the game.Love is Blindis a reality dating show wherein contestants get to know their prospective mates without ever seeing them until they’ve decided that they want to marry.Love is Blindjumps over the dating phase and straight to engagement, then a honeymoon, and then the wedding, where the couple must ultimately decide if they want to stay together. The recently released fourth season saw criminal defense attorney Zack Goytowski and event planner Irina Solomonova whisked away to Mexico where, over a romantic beach-side dinner, the topic of baby names came up. Things took a quick turn into the weird world ofElden Ringcharacter names.RELATED:Elden Ring Fans Name Their Least Favorite Bosses in the GameIn a startling break from conventional child names, Zack bravely suggested a couple of boy names taken directly fromElden Ring. The first was Godfrey, whomElden Ringplayers better knowas Godfrey the First Elden Lord. He’s one part of the boss fight gauntlet players must run through atElden Ring’s climax. Considering that Godfrey has a spectral lion clinging to his back, it’s easy to see why one might take some baby-naming inspiration from the battle-ax-wielding villain.
Irina shot down that suggestion with a quick and definitive “ew.” Zack, undeterred by rejection, jumped right in with anotherElden Ringboss name. This time it was Godrick. Irina wasted no time shooting that suggestion down, too. Probably for the best, since there’s a low chance anyone would want to name their child after a demigod who has gone so mad that he’s grafted the arms and legs of dead soldiers onto his body, granting him the appearance of a giant human spider. Anyone, that is, other than Zack.
Sadly, Zack and Irina were not meant to be. The couple broke up in Mexico. In an interview withToday, Irina said that there was no specific reason for the break-up other than a general sense that they weren’t as good a match for each other as they once believed. So, it doesn’t seem like Zack’s bizarre baby names played much of a role in Irina’s decision. But, as far asElden Ringcharacter names for real-life human babies go, Zack could have done worse. At least he didn’t want toname his future child “Dung Eater.”
Elden Ringis out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
