The originalCall of Duty: Warzonecould be getting a new name, according to a reputable leaker. Activision launched the originalCall of Duty: Warzonebattle royale game in 2020, and it has continued to support it ever since with a constant stream of content updates. However, attention is soon going to be shifting away from the originalCall of Duty: Warzone, as its sequel is set to launch in the relatively near future.
Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0is expected to launch in November, with a leaked internal document specifically mentioning a November 16 release date. It remains to be seen if that will indeed be the date that the BR launches on, but fans could find out as early as next week.Call of Duty: Warzone 2will be at the Call of Duty Next event, scheduled to take place on September 15 at 10am PT. Activision has confirmedCall of Duty: Warzone 2for the event, along withModern Warfare 2andCall of Duty: Warzone Mobile, but it remains to be seen if fans will get a release date announcement or just their first look at the game.

WithCall of Duty: Warzone 2set to launch within the next couple of months, one would think that Activision would abandon or replace the originalWarzoneentirely. However, according to reputableCall of Dutyleaker Tom Henderson, the originalWarzonewill apparently continue to receive updates after its sequel launches. Not only that, but it’s said to be getting a name change as well, with Activision reportedly renaming it toWarzone Calderastarting November 28. For the uninitiated, this would essentially be naming the game after itsCaldera map.
The November 28 date is interesting. It’s possible that is also the same day thatCall of Duty: Warzone 2launches and the previously leaked November 16 date is incorrect, but it’s also possible that is just the day that Activision is going to change the first game’s name. One claim in the leaked Activision document, theDecember 8 date for The Game Awards, has already been proven accurate, so it will definitely be interesting see what theWarzone 2launch date ends up being.
IfWarzone 2comes out on November 28 instead of November 16, that would put it exactly one month out from thelaunch ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Perhaps Activision wants to giveModern Warfare 2a full month to breathe before droppingWarzone 2, but that’s just speculation at this time. Fans will want to tune in to Call of Duty Next on September 15 at 10am PT to get a clearer picture of the franchise’s future.
Call of Duty: Warzoneis out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
