As the oldest and largest dragon to feature inHouse of the Dragon, Vhagar is the one to fear. Her size is intimidating, and she has done the unthinkable by eating and killing her rider’s nephew, Lucerys Velaryon. This is an aggressive act of war that Rhaenyra and Daemon Targaryen will not forgive, showing that the violence and warfare inHouse of the Dragonhave only just begun.

Seasmoke

Dragons are very hard to kill, as seen inGame of Thrones. However, since dragons are plentiful during this prequel toGame of Thrones, perhaps there lies a way todefeat Vhagar, whether that be in the responsibility of the rider or the Dragon. There are plenty of powerful dragons that could challenge Vhagar in the comingDance of the Dragons.

6Seasmoke

Laenor Velaryon was the rider to Seasmoke. This pale silver-grey dragon is young and nimble but is of fighting size. Seasmoke has the advantage of his nimble frame, as it can easily maneuver between Vhagar’s slow and heavy swings and speed past the devastating teeth that may seek to eat Seasmoke. However, Seasmoke is currently riderless, asLaenor fled responsibilityafter faking his death to be with his lover.

Seasmoke’s story is far from over inHouse of the Dragon, as the great beast might be riderless, but that will not last. Seasmoke will be ridden again, and perhaps come into plenty of battles during that time, but as far as challenging Vhagar goes, he would be better at running than fighting.

Syrax House of the Dragon

5Syrax

With her name coming from the Valyrian goddess, Syrax is a truly remarkable beast that was solely ridden by Rhaenyra Targaryen. The dragon here is huge and presented with yellow scales. Despite the lack of experience in battle and fearsome attitude, Syrax is entirely loyal to Rhaenerya and remained well-fed throughout that time.

Syrax could put up a fierce fight against Vhagar, especially if the dragon senses the urgency and grief in Rhaenerya, considering that Vhagar is the reason that her son, Lucerys is dead. Syrax has grown with Rhaenerya, and together they could very well claim King’s Landing, and avenge the death of Lucerys Velaryon, even though the dragon and Rhaenerya are not veterans of warfare.

4Meleys

Known as the Red Queen, Meleys is one of the oldest remaining dragons and is noted for her scarlet scales and copper crest. Despitethe size of Meleysand the age of the old dragon, Meleys remains one of the best dragons to grace Westeros. Meleys is a swift dragon that can easily outpace Vhagar, is certainly not a stranger to warfare, and has been a veteran of many wars, both as a cunning dragon, and a tired one.

Vhagar may find battling Meleys difficult considering their history with one another, and the fact that Meleys is not to be trifled with. The dragon is rather tame, but will certainly fight when threatened or commanded to. Perhaps Meleys could stand a chance against the larger and older Vhagar. That is if they fight alone.

3Vermithor

Towards the end of theHouse of the Dragonseason one finale, audiences see Daemon attempting to wake Vermithor, the bronze fury. This dragon was originally King Jaehaerys’, showing just how old Vermithor is. This dragon is nearly a century old and is younger than Vhagar, but still vicious enough to stir up a difficult fight indeed.

Vermithor is fearsome and surprisingly tolerant of humans. With no new rider since the death of King Jaehaerys all those years ago, perhaps Vermithor has grown more vicious, and if Daemon succeeds in taming him, there will surely be an epic battle of titanic dragons in the sky, and one that Vermithor may prove as a worthy opponent.

2Caraxes

Red, lean and mean, Caraxes is a very threatening dragon, with the rider and battle scars to prove it. Caraxes is the dragon mount ofDaemon Targaryenand is utterly fearless and formidable in battle. Caraxes is a middle-aged dragon and has a history with Meleys and Vhagar. This history will surely be Vhagar’s undoing, as the dragon is rather intelligent, and has a completely competent rider on his back with Daemon.

There’s a score to settle betweenDaemon and Aemond, and their rivalry will be legendary. It’s expected that Caraxes will fight Vhagar to avenge Lucerys, and to put an end to the tyrannical power that Vhagar upholds as a dragon. Caraxes will be more than up for the challenge, considering his loyalty to Daemon, and the great speed and ferocity that he presents.

1The Cannibal

Upon Dragonstone lies threewild dragons yet to be claimed. One of these dragons is the Cannibal, who received his name from the smallfolk thanks to the fact that this dragon eats his kind. Whether the dragon is a baby or not, or even an egg, the Cannibal will eat them with no hesitation. The only main downside of the Cannibal is the fact that he is wild, and doesn’t exactly like other dragons or people much.

Only a few dragons in the story have been described to be black as the night sky, with Balerion the Black Dread, and Drogon being two of them. The Cannibal is amother. There are those who believe that this dragon had come to Westeros even before the Targaryens, although that hasn’t been confirmed yet. The Cannibal could very well be the most dangerous dragon in the story. Since the Cannibal is an older and large dragon, he could put up a decent fight against Vhagar. The Cannibal could even fight dirty and bite and claw at Vhagar to take chunks of flesh and devour them. After all, the Cannibal is not exactly a loyal dragon, nor is it tamed for fighting in command.
