The company’s latest earning figures suggest that it may have an ambitious few months ahead for the game.
Although launched in early February, it didn’t take much time forHogwarts Legacyto generate excitement among the fans. During its early access launch period,Hogwarts Legacybecame the biggest WB Games launch on Steam, just days before global release. At the time its peak player count hit 489,139 on Steam and currently sits at a whopping 879,308, almost six times more than the peak player count for the company’s second-biggest title on the platform,MultiVersus. The game’s early momentum carried well into the months following the global launch and prompted WB Games to declareHogwarts Legacyas its biggest and best-selling game.

In the Warner Bros. Discovery earnings report for the first quarter of 2023, the company stated thatHogwarts Legacyhas sold 15 million copies and has generated over $1 billion in retail sales since its release. The reported figure comes weeks after the company claimed thatHogwarts Legacysold 256% more than WB Games' predicted sales. It’s also worth noting that this sales milestone is entirely attributed to PC and current-gen consoles. Now, withHogwarts Legacyreleasing on Xbox One and PS4 today, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the title cross even bigger sales figures in the coming months.
Interestingly, Avalanche Software initially planned to releaseHogwarts Legacycross-gen, with Xbox One and PS4 versions going online in line with the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S editions. The launch of the previous-gen version was later pushed by a few months to May 5, indicating that the developers may have looked to focus on the optimization for the consoles. However, this isn’t the final release for the company asHogwarts Legacyis set to launch on Nintendo Switchby July 25.
Beyond the console launch, fans have wondered what the future holds for the massive hit in terms of new content. While the company hasn’t confirmed any DLC expansions for the gameHogwarts Legacydid get new cosmetic DLC as part of a Twitch Drop.
