Grand Theft Autofans are hungry for news, but not just any news. An announcement regarding what’s next forGrand Theft Auto Onlinewould certainly be well received, but that’s not whatGTAfans are hungry for. They want to know aboutGrand Theft Auto 6, the unannounced and unconfirmed sequel believed to be in development at Rockstar. Fittingly, the upcoming Super Bowl 55 event is giving thoseGTAfans another opportunity to speculate about just such a reveal.
The focus on Super Bowl 55 isn’t entirely without direction, but it’s a reach to be sure. The speculation takes root in last year’s Super Bowl, theMiami-based Super Bowl 54. Those who watched Super Bowl 54 might recall that Fox produced a video for its kickoff show with aGrand Theft Auto Vice Citytheme. The video featured a Fox NFL Kickoff logo with theVice Cityfont, then showed clips with mini-map and star-rating graphics in the corners.

At the time,Grand Theft Autofans took theVice Citytheme as evidence of the involvement of Rockstar in the event. While no such partnership came to fruition, fans still assumed there was a purpose to theVice Cityreferences. Even now, many fans believe those Super Bowl 54 references were a hint thatGrand Theft Auto 6would revisitVice City, which has become a widespread and popular rumor.
The thought process of some fans says that if Super Bowl 54 hinted atVice City’s inclusion inGrand Theft Auto 6, thenSuper Bowl 55must have something special in-store, too. Perhaps there will be more subtle hints from Rockstar, or perhaps they’ll go all out and release a brand new trailer. There’s no actual evidence of this, of course. ButGrand Theft Autofans enjoy speculating almost as much as they enjoy actual announcements.
To repeat, there’s no actual indication that Rockstar will share any news about the future ofGrand Theft Autoat the upcoming Super Bowl or anywhere else for some time. There’s also no real evidence that the FoxVice Cityreferences were anything other than a fun thematic way to make clear the Super Bowl was in Miami. As exciting asGrand Theft Auto 6news may seem, there’s no reason to believe any will be delivered soon.
As with all games, an announcement will be made eventually. Speculating is fun, especially with how wild theGTAspeculation community is, but it’s probably best to maintain healthy expectations about whenRockstar’s next gamewill arrive. That is to say, Rockstar will revealGrand Theft Auto 6when it’s ready.
Grand Theft Auto 6is currently unannounced and unconfirmed.
