Summary
The currently unannounced PC version ofGrand Theft Auto 6might take longer to develop than its console brethren, so says a former member of Rockstar Games’ developmental staff. The internet was set ablaze with excitement earlier this week when Rockstar finally released the firsttrailer for the highly anticipatedGrand Theft Auto 6, which revealed the game’s setting, main characters, and 2025 release window. Overall reactions to this trailer were mainly positive, with many of the discussions spawned from it centering around its impressive graphics and intriguing plotline of a Bonnie and Clyde-like couple embarking on a crime wave in modern-day Vice City.
While most players are excited for another entry in the long-runningGrand Theft Autoseries, not everything aboutthe recentGrand Theft Auto 6trailerhas been warmly received. Fans quickly noted that the trailer only confirmed thatGTA 6is headed to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, with PC owners wondering when it will come to their system of choice as well. Rockstar has historically launched PC ports ofGrand Theft Autogames several months or even a full year after their console counterparts, and previousGTA 6leaks from before the trailer’s release have suggested that history will repeat itself.

Former Rockstar animator Mike York seems to think thatGrand Theft Auto 6will launch on PCmuch later than it will on consoles, saying as much in a pair of reaction videos on his YouTube channel. York previously worked on the critically acclaimedRed Dead Redemption 2before leaving Rockstar in 2017, and he believes that his old employer is focusing its efforts on “pushing the limits” of current-gen consoles before shifting gears toward the eventual PC version ofGTA 6.
York also had plenty of praise for the graphical prowess shown in thehighly-viewedGrand Theft Auto 6trailer, especially in the scene where dozens of NPCs are mingling on a beach. He says that background characters in most video games don’t look nearly as impressive as the ones seen inGTA 6so far, which he thinks is a promising sign of how the game will look when it launches in 2025. York also claimed that everything seen in theGTA 6trailer was in-game footage rather than the pre-rendered cutscenes that trailers typically employ.
Indeed,Grand Theft Auto 6looks like it could truly test the boundaries of modern consoles like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, and this could lead to the PC version of Rockstar’s latest open-world crime extravaganza taking longer to release. This isn’t out of the ordinary for Rockstar either, asGrand Theft Auto 5’s PC port launched a full year and a half after its console versions andRed Dead Redemption 2didn’t arrive on PC until a year after its initial release. Only time will tell how long PC owners have to wait to dive intoGrand Theft Auto 6, as it is currently set to launch on consoles sometime in 2025.
