One of PlayStation’s longest-running franchise isGran Turismo, known for pushing the envelope in terms of graphics and showcasing the power of Sony’s various home consoles. The nextGran Turismogame is presumably coming to the PlayStation 5, and as expected, it’s set to be a visual showcase for what the PlayStation 5 is capable of.

Polyphony Digitalboss Kazunori Yamauchi recently spoke aboutGran Turismo’s future to Australian media. While the resolution for the nextGran Turismomay be 4k, the new game is possibly aiming for a significantly improved frame rate. “Rather than a spatial resolution that you’re talking about, I’m more interested in the advancements we can make in terms of the time resolution. In terms of frames per second, rather than staying at 60 fps, I’m more interested in raising it to 120 fps or even 240 fps. I think that’s what’s going to be changing the experience from here on forward.”

Considering the fact that most current-generation video games are just 30-60 frames per second, this would be a significant leap, and a testament to the PS5’s horsepower. This would have obvious benefits for racing games likeGran Turismo, and while 240 fps would be most impressive, it’s safe to say many fans would be satisfied with 120 fps that Yamauchi is interested in.

It should be noted that Yamauchi is not necessarily talking about the next entry in theGran Turismoseries when he mentions this frame rate goal. It’s possible that Yamauchi is referring to aGran Turismogame that would be further down the line, maybe even for Sony’s next console following the PlayStation 5. However, industry analysts have predicted that thePS5 will be capable of 240 fps, so anything is possible.

As for when fans may get their first look at the nextGran Turismo, that remains to be seen. One of the prevailing PS5 rumors is that the nextGran Turismois a launch titleand will be revealed alongside the new console.

Sony is rumored to berevealing the PS5in March, though nothing official has been announced. If so, it makes sense for the company to utilizeGran Turismoas a way to show off the PS5’s power, but racing game fans should keep their expectations in check.
