Gotham Knightsis now available for players who want to experience a unique take on the Batman universe, one where The Dark Knight is dead, and it is up to his sidekicks to protect Gotham City. While the main focus of the game has been the Court of Owls, the presence of other iconic villains makes it so that players have a lot more to do in the game. One ofGotham Knights’most iconic villains also happens to be one of the oldest villains in the Batman Universe, Clayface, a former actor turned mud-powered villain.
Clayface’s comic origins date back to the 1940s when he was simply introduced as a man in a clay mask before eventually evolving into the super-powered villain that often takes on Batman. InGotham Knights, Clayface is not his usual self and seems to not have perfect control of his body that is split up and causing havoc around Gotham City. It will be up toBatgirl, Nightwing, Robin, and Red Hoodto find Clayface and ensure that he does not continue hurting the citizens of Gotham City.

Who is Clayface
Prior to gaining his mud powers, Basil Karlo was a small-time actor who had just landed a role in an upcoming horror film. However, after discovering that the movie was going to be re-shot with a completely new cast, Karlo was driven to madness, killing several members of the new cast untilhe was eventually stopped by Batman. Karlo eventually fell into a life of crime in the hopes of reviving his career and gaining the fame and fortune he yearned for.
There are many iterations to how Karlo gained his powers in the comics, from tricking members of the Mud Pack to give him their powers to an accident that he blamed on Batman.InGotham Knights, Clayface has a hatred for Batmanand blames him for most things that have happened in his life, including his most recent accident which led many to believe that he was dead. He still holds on to his dream of becoming a world-famous actor, however, inGotham Knights, he decides to do so by exposing Batman in a film of his own creation where he plays every role from director to actor.

What Happened to Clayface
There is not much information about what happened to Clayface prior to the events of Gotham Knights that led him down the path of creating a movie to expose Batman. Before the death of Batman,Clayface was being chased by The Dark Knightat the city’s reservoir and the villain fell into a turbine and got ripped to shreds. Fortunately, Clayface was not actually dead, instead, his body was ripped apart and spread across the city, which placed him in a comatose state for over a year.
Eventually, enough of Clayface’s pieces were able to recombine to wake the villain from his coma, and immediately, the villain started to blame Batman for his lost year. Clayface grew angry and upon realizing that Batman was not charged with murder, decided to start creating a film that would blame Batman for what happened that night at the reservoir. This is wherethe player first encounters Clayface, he still does not have complete control over his body, but he is in the process of making a movie in the hopes of both exposing Batman and becoming a world-famous actor.
As one of Batman’s most iconic villains, fans will be glad to see Clayface appear inGotham Knightsand be able to fight the monstrous villain. While his actions and reasons are not as terrible as the other two sidevillains in the game, Harley Quinn and Mr. Freeze, his uncontrolled rampaging on the citizens of Gotham City, attracted the attention of the Bat Family. With Clayface among its cast,Gotham Knightshas been able to offer a true Batman experience without the presence of The Dark Knight himself, giving the reigns to his most trusted allies instead.
Gotham Knightsis available now for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
