That last bit of information comes straight fromNetflix, as the company’s data shows that this past weekendGlass Onionflew pastThe Adam Projectto become the fifth most-watched film within 28 days after being dropped on the platform. TheKnives Outsequel has totalled over 253 million hours worth of viewing, which should see it edge outThe Gray Man, Netflix’s most expensive movie ever, soon enough. However, theKnives Outsequel is still far from the top two positions, comfortably held byRed NoticeandDon’t Look Up.
As seen from the rankings, the other movie that holds a place in the top 5 isBird Boxat the number three spot. Netflix’s highly decorated Martin Scorsese film,The Irishman, closes off at number ten. Since its premiere,Glass Onionhas topped the streaming giant’s viewership charts, although it was recently dethroned byThe Pale Blue Eye, starring Christian Bale, which came out last Friday.
At the time of writing,Glass Onionhas 8 days left to continue drawing in viewers. Even though its numbers might have already been close to peaking, Netflix will be happy with the kind of attention the sequel can direct toward the originalKnives Out,which, despite its success, is surprisingly nowhere near the aforementioned Top 10. Naturally, one element thatcertainly boostedGlass Onion’s numbers was perfect timing, as its release around Christmas made it one of the preferred holiday movies.
With at least one more installment guaranteed in the future, Rian Johnson nowknows what makesKnives Outwork, and he’ll surely be eager to continue implementing that formula with a different flavor for each subsequent Benoit Blanc case that follows.
