Why Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed Devs Chose Possessor Ghosts For 2nd Free DLC Update
Although ghost possession isn’t a brand-newGhostbusters: Spirits Unleashedghost ability, the Possessor ghost category, where players take the role of the Scuttle, Hellion, or Terror Sentinel, takes its possession mechanics much further, enabling players to possess Busters and control Civilians. Busters can get possessed by either an AI or player-controlled Possessor ghost, and players must beat a mini-game to break free of their ghostly invader. Ghost players can take control of civilians to knock Busters over and cause mischief, along with other ghost tricks likePropHunt-style object possession as per the base game.
When asked why the developers chose the Possessor as the latest ghost type and if other ghosts from the movies were considered, Mathewson explained they wanted to choose a prominent ghost from theGhostbustersmovies that enabled them to expand upon human possession. Zuul and Clotho are also two of theGhostbustersmovies' best ghostswho are widely considered a firm fan-favorite as the minions of Gozer. As Mathewson further explained,

We knew that we wanted to give the player the ability to control Civilians and players with powers like we see in their on-screen appearances, while also balancing it into our gameplay. In the end, I feel we hit the right chord, while additionally adding some fun abilities to further increase the Ghost variety…we are always considering multiple ghosts, but you will have to wait and see what’s in store for future DLC.
What Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed 2nd DLC Possessor And Drudges Add To The Multiplayer Gameplay
The Possessor ghosts may well beGhostbusters: Spirits Unleashedbest ghost, as it’s the most challenging yet for many players. Mathewson said he is “extremely happy” with how Possessors have impacted the game, but was also “most excited” about the inclusion of Drudges in the 2nd DLC. Mathewson further discussed their purpose and how they affect the asymmetrical multiplayer gameplay.
For the Ghost, they add helpers who provide additional protection, misdirection, and haunting, giving the Ghost a better opportunity to evade and plan their attack.
For the Busters, it’s something to add to the job loop, giving you more interesting lull periods between ghost encounters, feeding a fun swelling and pop sound while training on the particle thrower tethering mechanics. Additionally, it has changed the engagement of rift encounters to further incentivize planning and teamwork, which creates even better moments.
The latest ghostly additions likely fulfilled many wishlistedplayable ghosts forGhostbusters: Spirits Unleashed, but it remains to be seen what else gets added down the line. Hopefully, there will be more iconic ghosts or ghost encounters in future DLC updates in a game that looks set to deliver even more wish-fulfillingGhostbustersfan service.
