Most open-world RPGs rely on an in-game currency for all sorts of transactions, ranging from buying items from shops to leveling up weapons.Genshin Impactrelies on a similar economic structure centered around its in-game currency ‘Mora.’ The gameessentially runs on Mora, as almost every single action pertaining to weapons, characters, and talents utilizes this in-game currency.

Considering the significance attributed to this currency, Mora becomes a valuable resource that must be spent wisely. Mora isn’t exactly a scarce resource, but with the number of actions requiring this currency withinGenshin Impact, players can easily become penniless in a matter of seconds. The game has several traps that can drain players’ Mora, and avoiding these is essential, especially early game when this in-game currency is already insufficient.
6Leveling Up All Characters
Genshin Impactfeatures anextensive lineup of unique characters, each one boasting vivid designs and intricate playstyles. With such a wide selection of characters available, newer players might be enticed to level up all of them. It’s natural for players to try out all available characters and the new ones they unlock along the way. However, leveling up characters inGenshin Impactcomes with a hefty cost, requiring both Mora and Talent Books.
Leveling up one character to level 80, the maximum recommended level, costs just under one million Mora. This is simply the cost of leveling up, as players will further have to spend Mora on talents, weapons, and even artifacts. The whole ordeal quickly becomes a Mora-draining quicksand. Therefore, it’s recommended to avoid building characters that are not needed or ones likely to be benched for the most part.

5Buying Items From NPC Merchants
NPC shops are dottedthroughout major cities and small settlements around Teyvat’s landscape. These shops offer all sorts of items, ranging from cooking materials to local specialties required for ascension. However, some of these shops demand exorbitant amounts of Mora for items that players can easily farm themselves.
It’s reasonable to buy cooking items that don’t cost much from these shops. Still, the costs can add up in the long run, meaning players can benefit greatly from exploring Teyvat and farming these items along the way.

4Leveling Up Unneeded Weapons
Players have access to a myriad of weapons, either through weapon and character banners, the Starglitter shop, or the blacksmith. However, it’s not worth leveling up every single 4-star or 5-star weapon available. Similar to characters, weapons also take up a massive chunk of Mora, not to mention the amount of weapon enhancement materials needed further.

Players should only level up weapons that are suitable for their characters or ones that they will be needing for an upcoming character. Similarly, spending Mora on weapons of the same type can also result in major losses if players plan on using them as refinement later on.
3Leveling Up Characters Beyond Level 80
Genshin Impact’splayer base unanimously agrees on level 80 being the maximum recommended level for characters. Going beyond this level only offers diminishing returns despite the massive amount of Mora required. Leveling a character from 80 to 90 requires exactly 684,800 Mora, an extortionate amount considering how little returns players get.

The only exception ismain-DPS charactersthat require every bit of damage, albeit only in the case of excess Mora reserves. Otherwise, level 80 is the optimal max level for all characters, and going beyond that is nothing but a waste of precious resources.
2Upgrading Artifacts With Useless Sub-stats
Genshin Impact’sunending artifact grind is the bane of every player’s existence. Based entirely on RNG, getting the right artifact is a tireless process that requires months of grinding. In this process, players end up wasting a ton of Mora onpossibly good artifactsthat end up going into the wrong sub-stat.
For some, it might pay off with a usable artifact and decent sub-stats. Others, however, will be left with a useless artifact and a negative balance. To avoid this Mora trap, players should only upgrade artifacts that have at leastthree good sub-stats. If the artifact rolls on the wrong sub-stat, it’s recommended not to go beyond level 8 as it will only result in lost Mora.

1Leveling Up Normal Attack Talent on Supports
Upgrading talents on characters is necessary to get the most out of them. However, talents aren’t cheap and can use up a considerable amount of Mora. New players end up making the mistake of leveling up all three talents on characters, leading to Mora deficits early on in the game.
This is true in the case of support oreven sub-DPS charactersthat don’t rely on normal attacks. The cost of leveling a talent to level 10 amounts to a whopping 1,652,500 Mora, far exceeding the amount of More required for leveling the character itself. Therefore, spending such a massive sum on normal attack talents for characters that don’t rely on them will be a colossal waste for players.

Genshin Impactis now available on Mobile, PC, PS4, and PS5. A Switch version is in development.
