When asked by a fan whether he would be bringing Joel Miller to life in the HBO adaptation of the popular PlayStation video game,The Last of Us, Coster-Waldau simply informed fans how he has recently purchased a copy ofThe Last of Us Part 2, noting how it’s a “great game.”
His refusal to directly acknowledge the question didn’t go unnoticed by fans, who believed that Coster-Waldau would be aperfect fit for the character. One highlighted how his response wasn’t exactly a denial, leading others to speculate further. Some pointed to how the actor could be playing the game as research for the role, allowing him to familiarize himself with the world and characters ofThe Last Of Usbefore any sort of official announcement is made for the eagerly-anticipated show.

The HBO show was officially unannounced on March 6 after plans for a live-action movie adaptation faltered following years in development hell. The movie was first announced in March 2014 and, at one point, had prolific director Sam Raimi attached to the project. It was ultimately canceled tomake way for the forthcoming HBO series.
Despite the recent release ofThe Last of Us Part 2on PlayStation 4, HBO’sThe Last of Usappears to be focused on delivering a live-action version of the first game. The story follows Joel Miller, a smuggler who is tasked with escorting a teenage girl, Ellie, across a post-apocalyptic United States as they attempt to survive against hordes of infected creatures and hostile human enemies.
