The newStar Warsphotos showEwan McGregor’s exiled Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobias he lies low on Tatooine, hiding in the shadows and lurking around corners as he watches over a young Luke Skywalker. Also included in the Entertainment Weekly photos is a first look as at Joel Edgerton, who is reprising his prequel era role as Luke Skywalker’s surrogate guardian, Uncle Owen Lars. In the photo,he appears to be facing down Reva onthe streets of Tatooine, no doubt eager to hide his force sensitive nephew from the prying eyes of the Empire. The last photo in this series shows Obi-Wan traveling to a new planet called Daiyu, which writer Jody Harold says, “sort of has a Hong Kong feel to it. It’s got a graffiti-ridden nightlife, and is kind of edgy. It’s just got a different lane and a different feeling.”

While these photos don’t reveal too much, they do offer a few answers to questions fans have had since the series was announced. For one, we know thatObi-Wan Kenobiwill not be relegated to Tatooine, and in classicStar Warsfashion, at least one new world will be introduced. When the series was first announced, many fans speculated that the entire show could take place on Tatooine, which was the case with the more recent Disney PlusStar WarsseriesThe Book of Boba Fett, which apart from some brief flashbacks was entirely centered on the desert planet.

While there are likely many new characters waiting to be introduced in theObi-WanKenobiseries, one of the more exciting reveals in these photos is the introduction of the new villain, Reva. Imperial Inquisitors have shown up in manyStar Warsstories over the years, including the animated seriesStar Wars:Rebelsand the popular video gameStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. It’s unclear how many inquisitors the Empire has in total, but Reva is definitely a new character who has not appeared in any otherStar Warsmedia to date. However, this probably means her odds of surviving the series are pretty low.

Absent from the photos isactor Hayden Christensen, who fans know is reprising his prequel era role as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader. So far fans have only gotten a look at him from some concept art that was released late last year. Disneyand Lucasfilm are more than likely holding off on that reveal until the first trailer, which will hopefully be released soon.

Obi-WanKenobipremieres exclusively on Disney Plus on May 25th, 2022.
