Final Fantasy 7 Remakewon’t be a PS4 exclusive after all. It would seem that through anupdate to the game’s box art, Square Enix revealed the title would only be exclusive to PlayStation for precisely one year.
ConsideringFinal Fantasy 7Remakeand its future installments serve to recreate theFinal Fantasy 7experience for the modern age, followers of the game found it easy to believe that it would be a PS4 exclusive (the game did originally release on the PS1 after all). But updated box art for the game confirms that the exclusivity is timed.

The overall look of the art itself isn’t any different from the originalFinal Fantasy 7 Remakebox art, but it does feature a new icon above the Square Enix logo that displays its exclusivity information. The icon reads ”PlayStation Exclusive. Play first on PS4.” Then, beneath the text, it informs players that the game will only be a “timed exclusive,” one that will last on until July 25, 2025.
What exactly the game will release on after its PS4 commitment remains to be confirmed by Square Enix. Xbox seems fairly obvious, especially when considering Square Enix announced at the X019 event this year that it would be bringingseveral otherFinal Fantasytitles to the console’s Game Pass. The real question concerns which version of the Xbox thatFF7Remakewill release on.
The game comes out the same year the Xbox Scarlett andPS5 will supposedly arrive, and these next-generation consoles should come out around the holidays, which gives them at least four months to get up and running beforeFinal Fantasy 7 Remake’s exclusivity ends. This means there’s a chance the game will make it to the Xbox Scarlett (which undoubtedly means it will also end up on the PS5).
With this being the case, there’s no reason for the game not to end up on PC either. Along with PlayStation and Xbox, PC makes up the trio of staple gaming machines for multi-platform titles. Square Enix did release the originalFinal Fantasy 7on other consoles besides the PS1 in its later years, allowing players to play it on PC, Xbox, and even the Nintendo Switch. So in a way, it’s still following the same path of the originalFF7experience. Sadly, however,Final Fantasy 7 Remakemay be too much for the Switch to handle this time around.
