Summary
Final Fantasy 14is expanding the Duty Support system to include every duty leading up to theShadowbringersexpansion. Once this feature is added in the next update, the story ofFinal Fantasy 14will be almost completely soloable.
TheShadowbringersexpansion introduced the Trust system, which allowed players to enter dungeons required to progress through the Main Scenario with a group of NPC allies, rather than real players. InEndwalker, it was renamed to the Duty Support system, and in subsequent patches,Final Fantasy 14began adding the ability to complete older Main Scenario dungeonsusing these NPC allies.

In Growing Light,Final Fantasy 14’s next major content update scheduled for October, the Duty Support system is receiving another expansion that takes it all the way throughStormblood’s patch content. This means every dungeon inA Realm Reborn,Heavensward, andStormbloodcan soon be cleared solo. Considering all Main ScenarioFinal Fantasy 14dungeonsfromShadowbringersonward have been designed with Duty Support, the only things that require players to party up with others to experience the story are certain 8-man Trials and the 24-man Crystal Tower Alliance raid series.
Like previous expansions to the Duty Support system, these remainingStormblooddungeons give players the opportunity to fight alongside beloved NPCs, such as Arenvald and J’moldva, each of which have some new dialogue and interactions. This allows sprouts to grow even moreattached to theseFinal Fantasy 14characterswhile playing for the first time, while also giving veterans new content to go back and appreciate themselves.
Fans have been excited to see this long-term project finally come to fruition. The Duty Support system has been wildly popular since its addition in no small part due to thevivid cast ofFinal Fantasy 14. Giving players new ways to see these characters in action is awesome, and providing paths for solo players to experience the incredible story ofFinal Fantasy 14can only bring more players to the game.
Growing Light is alsoexpanding the free trial ofFinal Fantasy 14to include theStormbloodexpansion. Were that not enough,Final Fantasy 14is also coming to the Xbox Series X/S next spring, just in time for the recently-announcedDawntrailexpansion–and its long-awaited graphics update–currently planned for Summer 2024. There’s a lot to be excited about inFinal Fantasy 14right now, and more players than ever before are about to get the chance to check out the critically-acclaimed MMORPG.
Final Fantasy 14is available now for PC, PS4, and PS5, with an Xbox Series X/S version coming in Spring 2024.
