Final Fantasy 10remains one of the most popularFinal Fantasytitles out there, and a portion of its more dedicated fans are still crafting detailed and eye-catching cosplays. Recently, oneFinal Fantasy 10fan took a cosplay photoshoot that brings the game’s strong-willed protagonist Tidus to life.
Redditor MeruruAya has put together an excellent, game-accurate Tidus cosplay that captures just about every aspect of the character, including his questionable fashion sense. Much has been said over the years about Tidus' outfit, which seems to be composed of equal parts overalls, hoodie, and asymmetrical shorts, making it much harder to stumble across in real life thanYuna’sFinal Fantasy 10kimono. However, MeruruAya did a great job recreating this iconic costume and making it look like something one might actually wear.

Like much of the game, the photoshoot takes place at the beach. Tidus comes equipped with a messy blond wig that highlights his canonical dark roots, ankle-high black boots, and a gorgeous recreation of the Caladbolg sword. The sword serves as his ultimate weapon inFinal Fantasy 10and its highly stylized blue blade makes it difficult to overlook. In the first picture, MeruruAya took advantage of Caladbolg’s striking appearance to make it as much the focus of the image as Tidus, similar to the wayTomia showed off her staff in her Yuna cosplay. It captures Tidus sitting with his back to the sword and his eyes on the viewer, an uncharacteristically somber look on his face.
The second picture shows Tidus standing on a rock surrounded by water–specifically, a small stretch of rock with the dark brown color of stone that gets submerged at high tide. This time, he’s gazing off into the distance at something out of frame. The accompanying text, which reads “I wanted to see Yuna’s statue, too. But I wanted to see it…with Yuna by my side” suggests that he’s supposed to be looking at her. AlthoughFinal Fantasy 10is remembered for its bright colors, lively cast of characters, and the surprisingly sweet romance between Tidus and Yuna, it,Final Fantasy 10-2, and atheoreticalFinal Fantasy 10-3also contain an exploration of how people should live in the constant shadow of death.
Both images have been well-received byFinal Fantasyfans as of writing, several of whom immediately began complimenting MeruruAya’s work. However, two posters chose instead to draw attention to Tidus' resemblance to Meg Ryan, to the confusion of the cosplayer. Another poster currently replayingFinal Fantasy 10drew attention to the gorgeous recreation of Caladbolg, which led MeruruAya to thank them and hope their playthrough was going well. This cosplay of Tidus would fit right in with any list ofbestFinal Fantasy 10cosplays.
