What is The Dark Pictures Anthology?

Built on the success ofUntil Dawn,The Dark Pictures Anthologyis a series of eight “intense standalone horror games” that each explore different themes and sub-genres of horror. Supermassive Games originally intended to release a new instalment every six months, but understandably that goal has been a little too ambitious for the developer. The anthology series began in August 2018 with the release ofMan of Medan, followed byLittle Hopelater this week. While it’s known that there will be eight games, so far, no additional games in the series have been announced.

The Story of Little Hope

The story ofThe Dark Pictures: Little Hopefollows four college students and their professor who become stranded in the town of Little Hope, New England after their bus breaks down. Trapped in Little Hope by a mysterious fog, the group discovers a group of settlers that look exactly like them being executed, in a town with a long history of witch-hunting, and will need to piece together the dark history of the town if they ever want to escape.

Little Hope Inspiration and Cast

Supermassive Games has confirmed thatwitchcraft will serve as the main theme forThe Dark Pictures: Little Hopewith films likeThe Witch, The Blair Witch Projectand It Follows all serving as inspiration for the story. The game’s story will also feature multiple timelines and players will move between the past and the present as they try to uncover the town’s secrets. Similar to previous games,The Dark Pictures: Little Hopehas a great cast including Will Poulter (The Maze Runner, Midsommar), Caitlyn Sponheimer (The Boys), and Alex Ivanovici (Assassin’s Creed II, 300).

Little Hope Release Date and Special Editions

The Dark Pictures: Little Hopewill be released worldwide on Friday, October 30 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, and will be available on next-gen consoles through backward compatibility. There will be three editions ofLittle Hopeavailable for purchase including the Standard Edition, the Dark Pictures Anthology Bundle which includes both games as well as collectible pins, a world map, and a steelbook case, and a thirdLittle Hope Collectors Edition(pictured above) which will be exclusive to Bandai Namco’s online store.
