Like FromSoftware’s previous games, fans can play with and against others inElden Ring. Co-op and PvP likely play a huge role in the longevity of these titles and in maintaining an active userbase years after launch. However,Elden Ring’s multiplayer component has a big problemthat continues to impact the competitive experience for many users.

AFK rune farming allows gamers to easily earn runes without having to play the game. It’s relatively simple to execute, and manyElden Ringplayers have expressed their complaints about this practice. While it seems like this issue is unlikely to get completely solved, players have figured out the popular hiding spots and developed clever strategies for taking out their target. Just a few days ago, one fan received a surprising message after a tense encounter with an AFK rune farmer.

A user named Over_Supermarket_609 has shared a clip of their fight against anAFK rune farmer inElden Ring. Over_Supermarket_609 gets summoned as a red phantom in Limgrave and seems to have a general idea of the host’s location. Invaders see a compass marker that points toward the target, but it disappears if they are nearby. In this case, the marker disappeared after Over_Supermarket_609 took a few steps, suggesting that the host is hiding somewhere close by. They also equip a Jar Cannon and use buffs on the way to the target’s location.

It takes Over_Supermarket_609 over a minute to find the host, but they finally do and manage to land a couple of hits. The host realizes that theirplan to use the AFK rune farming method won’t workand the one-on-one battle finally begins. Both players dodge each other’s melee attacks and the host starts utilizing magic in the hopes of winning the encounter. This ends up being a mistake as the invader dodges their attacks and defeats the host in two hits. The other user didn’t seem like a bad player and the battle could have gone either way.

Over_Supermarket_609 claims that the host sent them a message after the fight, asking why they didn’t leave the game. There are a few ways tofarm runes inElden Ring, but going AFK in a PvP battle requires the least amount of effort. According to Over_Supermarket_609, the host stated that they found the bird and Albinauric farming methods too hard, but other users mention that it’s the easiest way to get tons of runes. The comments section is otherwise filled withElden Ringplayers expressing their dislike of AFK rune farmers and their impact on the multiplayer experience.

Elden Ringis available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
