Elden Ring’s flora and fauna can be incredibly dangerous throughout the Lands Between. Each biome has its own monstrosities and perils to look out for, whether they occur out and about in the world or hidden pastElden Ring’s imp statues, which require stonesword keys to unlock.

Liurnia’s lobsters, Ainsel River’s ants, and Siofra River’s land octopi are only a few of the enormous wildlife perils players face and in many other areas as well. One ofElden Ring’s most fearsome and ferocious wildlife enemiesis its Runebears. Not to be confused with normal bears, Runebears are much more massive and feature runic patterns on their chests. In one player’s encounter with a Runebear, the battle takes an unprecedented turn in the player’s favor when all hope looks to be lost.

Redditor Soggy-Pouch shares their documented experience with an awkward glitch. In the Weeping Peninsula’s Earthbore Cave, Soggy-Pouch evasively rolls while they cast the Catch Fire incantation at the Runebear boss. Soggy-Pouch preemptively rolls to evade the Runebear’s delayed command grab and is caught. However, the animation is cut short as the players takes damage and the player is released while the Runebear suddenly sinks into the boss stage’s floor.

This lack of mid-animation collision is not uncommon inElden Ring, nor is it unfamiliar in other FromSoftware titles. Thankfully for Soggy-Pouch, this glitch resulted in a cheesy win as they claim the boss perished a bit of time after the clip ended. But there have also been occurrences whereplayer deaths have been caused by the same glitches inElden Ring. Because Runebears are particularly aggressive, this glitch may be in the player’s favor. However, Soggy-Pouch was performing well with their incantation and may feel like they were robbed of proper satisfaction.

This is not necessarily a reliable means with which players can approach enemies, but it does tend to happen more often than players may expect.Elden Ring’s update patcheshave been doled out fairly quickly to resolve issues that have both buffed and nerfed players' preferred builds and armaments, and it will be interesting to see if some of these glitches will be smoothed out throughout the game as well at some point.

If players have difficulty with the Runebear naturally, they will always have the option to return to it whenever they feel like they are better equipped for it or have leveled up enough. Soggy-Pouch admits that their character was leveled high enough to be able to take some of the Runebear’s more lethal hits, and this is a strategy that can be employed everywhere inElden Ring.

Elden Ringis available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
