Warning: The following contains spoilers for Edens Zero Season 2, Episode 25, “Prelude to the Aoi War,” now streaming onCrunchyroll.
Edens Zero’s narrative had already been on a shaky ledge after the recent turmoil within the Aoi Cosmos, and the latest events have plunged the entire cosmos into utter chaos. A cataclysmicwar within the Aoi Cosmoswas already imminent, and the current episode marks the official beginning of the Aoi War.

With the android purge underway and Ziggy at large, the Edens Zero crew has no other choice but to embroil itself in yet another war. With new belligerents such as the Desert Oasis joining the battlefield, the Aoi War could be in Edens Zero’s favor, though a trailer of the events to come paints an entirely opposite picture. Nevertheless, the narrative still remains uncertain and incalculable, and the tide of war could turn to either side.

The Defense of Planet Sandra
With Planet Sandra as a rebel stronghold, the Aoi Government was bound to send its troops for the android purge. The initial waves of troops were easily decimated by Shiki and the rest, leading to the Aoi Empire resorting to an even more sinister method ofpurging the androids– a weapon of mass destruction. With a particle bomb, the government army planned on ripping Planet Sandra into two, resulting in the demise of androids and humans alike.
Before the Edens Zero crew could act, the bomb had already been activated by Orc of the Beast Squad. However, the threat wasquickly defused by Shikiand Hermit, with the former lifting the massive bomb up to the planet’s atmosphere and the latter reducing its potency by 90% through hacking. While the initial threat was negated, another danger loomed over the crew – Poseidon Shura.

The peace on Planet Sandra is only temporary as the Nero Empire’s true offensive is yet to come. With Desert Oasis and Edens Zero joining forces, the odds of the rebellion’s success have greatly increased. However, the Nero Empire’s military prowess has proven itself to be quite formidable, especially with the Oceans 6 and Shura at the helm.
The Bitter Reality of War
The Empire’s offensive on Planet Sandra was merely a prelude to the cataclysmic war that is bound to come. However, even a meager skirmish such as this has revealed thebitter reality of warand what it means for innocent people caught in its wake. While civilians are bound to suffer, soldiers forcefully sent to the frontline are also victims of the higher-ups’ vain pursuits.
After Sandra’s defense, the prisoners of war expected a harsh sentence from the rebels, since this is common in warfare. To their surprise, Goodwin, the leader of Desert Oasis, eases their suffering and explains that there is no good or bad side to war, just two sides with different beliefs. He reiterates his reasons for hating the empire, yet he puts emphasis on the fact that he does not hate the people forcefully embroiled in this conflict. Goodwin’s heart may be in the right place, yet it doesn’t negate the fact that thedeath of millions is imminent.

Laguna’s True Intentions Within the Edens Zero
Laguna Husert is a relatively newer addition to the Edens Zero crew, joining the ranks after Witch convinced him to help Shiki on Planet Red Cave. His initial motive for remaining on the Edens Zero was simply to find a suitable planet within the Aoi Cosmos since he became a wanted criminal within Sakura Cosmosafter Drakken Joe’s fall.
However, his true intentions have finally been revealed, further cementing his place within the series’ premise. Laguna originally belonged to the Aoi Cosmos and was part of the rebel group Desert Oasis, yet he deserted his comrades andfled to the Sakura Cosmosto work under Drakken Joe. His actions may have deemed him a traitor at first, but his true intention was to find organizations that could potentially take down Poseidon Nero.

After Drakken Joe’s defeat, Edens Zero seemed like the next plausible route to find a way to defeat the Nero Empire. Weisz deduced that if Edens Zero had refused to take Laguna in, he would have eventually joined forces with Elsie Crimson tofind a way to defeat Nero. In either case, his intentions were pure since his only goal was to save his homeland and take down Nero.
A Prelude to War
With the Edens Zero crew hell-bent on taking down Shura, the ship’s next destination is Planet Nero 66, Shura’s base of operations. With the Cosmic Government already planning an invasion on Planet Nero 66 and the Desert Oasis joining in, the Edens Zero crew plans on evading detection and heading right into Shura’s base.
With this episode being the season finale, the scene cuts off right before the Edens Zero battleship crashes into Shura’s headquarters. While the series may have left the narrative on a cliffhanger, the end credits feature a snippet of the Aoi War, painting a grim picture for Shiki and his friends. For now, only speculations can be made, meaning avid fans will have to wait for the next season ofEdens Zeroto premiere for the rest of the storyline to conclude.
