A frustratedDiablo 4fan expressed their disappointment with the rewards given by the Silent Chests in the game, sparking a wave of agreement from fellow fans of the newly released title. This complaint can be added to the growing list of issues that some fans are having withDiablo 4.
One of the major aspects of anyDiablogame is the looting system. The whole point of killing bigger and badder demons is grabbing the impressive weapon or piece of gear they drop. One of the new ways to loot inDiablo 4is by opening Silent Chests. These chests can be found all around the world and can only beopened by using a Whispering Key. Players can purchase these Whispering Keys at the Purveyor of Curiosities vendors, found in all the major cities in the game for 20 Murmuring Obols. The main concern about these Silent Chests is if the prizes inside are worth the Obols, and according to many fans, the answer is no.

Reddit user KamaTheSnowLeopard took to the site to post the bold statement that “Silent Chests are 100% trash.” They explained further that they opened up over 40 of these hidden chests and haven’t been able to find any gear or weapon worth using. In fact, most of the gear found in Silent Chests are the same rank as the gear they would get by killing random low-tier enemies, not even the gear they would receive from defeatingthe hardest enemies inDiablo 4, which would at least be worth it. They ended their statement by pointing out that a chest that takes 20 Obols to open should always produce something worth taking.
According to the comments, the original poster is one of many that feel this way about Silent Chests. Most of the comments are flooded with similar horror stories about opening 30+ Silent Chests and not finding a single legendary weapon or piece of gear. One commenter pointed out if a character is below level 50, these chests may be worth it, but any character above level 50 is better off not buying any Whispering Keys. Some commenters suggest only spending time participating inDiablo 4’s Helltide events, while another commenter claims that the Silent Chests get better while in World Tier 4. One thing’s for sure: much of the general fanbase is not excited about Silent Chests.
The only thing fans can do now is hope that Blizzard Entertainment releases a patch that buffs these hidden chests, but there’s no telling if that’s on the company’s agenda. For now, it’s probably best for players to spend their Murmuring Obols on the otherrewards at the Purveyor of Curiositiesuntil the Silent Chest situation gets better.
Diablo 4is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
