ADiablo 4player recently pointed out a funny fact about buildings in Sanctuary that doesn’t make much sense. While this hilarious flaw is simply a gameplay feature ofDiablo 4, it is no less entertaining if one thinks about it.
As players explore Sanctuary, they will discover Cellars–single-room instances where they can defeat monsters or complete short puzzles to earn chests full of gold and loot. These randomly-generated mini-dungeons range from ancient ruins to literal holes in the ground, and can befound all overDiablo 4.

However,Diablo 4fan and Redditor SadKings pointed out a funny detail regarding some of the Cellars in the game. During hisDiablo 4adventure, they found a small shack with a Cellar attached to it. Once they descended into the instance, however, they noticed it was several times larger than the building above it. They couldn’t help but point out how silly it was to consider someone building structures with such strange and imbalanced proportions.
Obviously, Cellars are a game function that players aren’t supposed to think about too deeply. Even so, the concept of real estate in a world as dark and gloomy as Sanctuary is funny to consider. Technically, every building, dungeon, and ruin spread across the game has to have been built by someone or something in the past–despite players rarely seeing active construction taking place–and many fans couldn’t help but laugh at the marvels of architecture suggested byprocedurally-generated instances inDiablo 4.
Many of SadKings’ fellowDiablo 4fans offered their own comedic explanations for the silly building designs. Some said it is no wonder they have huge basements, considering how many dangers lurk about the wilds of Sanctuary, while others suggested the near-identical Cellars ofDiablo 4were all built by the same twisted architect. A few horror movie fans also drew parallels tothe aptly-namedBarbarian–a film where a misguided landlord discovers a torture dungeon in his basement which he then rents out to tenants.
Players can currently explore all the baffling real estate of SanctuaryduringDiablo 4’searly access period. To do so, fans must purchase the Deluxe or Ultimate editions of the game, or upgrade from the Standard edition. The full game releases on June 5 at 4 PM PST, after which players with any version can log in. With dozens of Cellars, Dungeons, and Strongholds to raid,Diablo 4fans have plenty of strange buildings to explore across the game world, each filled with more terrifying monsters than the last.
Diablo 4is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X.
