Destiny 2: Beyond Lightbrought many updates players have been eager to see. For starters, the expansion introduced the concept of Dark Guardians witha new element type, Stasis, that is aligned with the Darkness instead of the Traveler. At the same time, Europa finally released; a mysterious destination that was teased back when the first game was being publicized. Yet, there is still more to learn aboutBeyond Lightand Year 4 of Bungie’s MMO. Thus, players have turned to dig through the game files to hopefully gain some insights, and a recent batch of discoveries highlight interesting internal names for items from exotic weapons to the Darkness itself.

Fans ofDestiny 2are notorious for uncovering the game’s secrets before they’re ready for the public eye. That said, all of the information should be taken with a grain of salt, and shouldn’t be viewed as indicative of future content. While the naming Bungie uses internally can be insightful, it is not a direct confirmation of content or story that players may experience down the line.

Developers sometimes use seemingly random names that aren’t intended to be meaningful for the players. Even so, some objects are labeled peculiarly and deserve further discussion. To begin with, Bungie uses the term"veil" to label many Darkness-related objectsfrom pyramid ships to the monolithic statues. This has been a community-favorite alias for the pyramids, but had never been officially used by Bungie in the game while referring to the Darkness' forces.

Coinciding with recent speculations about thestory events ofBeyond Light, the trio players meet on Europa; Eris, the Drifter, and the Stranger; have been labeled the “Dark Vanguard” in the game files. Not only do they make up a three member team like the Vanguard, they also champion the antithesis of the Light. Players theorize that in the future, Darkness-aligned Guardians will answer to the renegade Vanguard on Europa while others will continue being an asset to the regular Vanguard.

Moving to the Last Wish Raid, Reddit user Monteven showcased multiple curious file names. The Raid has been dubbed “beanstalk,” a possible refence to the fact that players ascend a tower and eventually kill the beast at its peak. More importantly, only 14 wishes are recorded in the game files for use in the Wall of Wishes, despite the Triumphs inDestiny 2having a spot allocatedfor the elusive wish 15. This gives credence to the theory that wish 15 is a hoax, created to keep long-time fans guessing.

Finally, theExotic Sniper Rifle Whisper of the Wormis titled “Blacker Hammerer” by the developers. This will undoubtedly bring a smile to veteran fans' faces, since Whisper of the Worm was based on a famousDestinySniper Rifle called Black Hammer.
