It looksDead Cells: Return to Castlevaniamight be coming to the PS5 soon. The recentDead Cells/ Castlevaniacrossover expansionwas released back on March 6, though a PS5 version was notably absent from the initial launch lineup, however.
The fourth major expansion for the roguelike Metroidvania since its 2018 release,Dead Cells: Return to Castlevaniafeatures characters, enemies, weapons, and items from Konami’s iconicCastlevaniafranchise. The DLC has received critical acclaim since its release, and is regarded by some as a master class in how to do a crossover the right way. The previous three expansions—The Bad Seed,Fatal Falls, andThe Queen and the Sea—are all also highly praised.

An ESRB rating (of T for Teen) for PlayStation 5 has appeared online forDead Cells: Return to Castlevania. This all but confirms that a PS5 version of the expansion, which is rumored to be the last forDead Cells, is indeed in the works. The ESRB site cites “Blood and Gore, Language, Violence” in its content rating for the DLC. According to the rating summary: “Players use punches, kicks, and gadgets (e.g., flame-thrower traps, grenades, arrow turrets) to kill enemies.” The summary also goes on to state that, “Enemies emit large splatters of blood when injured/killed and sometimes break apart into bloody pieces; blood also stains the floors and walls of some areas.”
InDead Cells: Return to Castlevania, players can take on the role of Richter Belmont and otherCastlevaniacharacters, including Maria Renard and Soma Cruz, in order to storm Dracula’s Castle once again. That is, once they find it. The castle is initially hidden and players will have to die a few times in the process of finding it. Once the DLC is accessed players will discover a slew of new content along the way in the form of new biomes (these include the Castle Outskirts, Dracula’s Castle, the Defiled Necropolis, and Master’s Keep) as well as new items and outfits. TheclassicCastlevaniamonsters making an appearanceinReturn to Castlevaniainclude the Axe Armor, Werewolf, Vampire Bat, Harpy, Bone Pillar, Medusa and bosses Death and Dracula.
The DLC also adds 13 new achievements, as completionists will be happy to know. And perhaps most intriguing forCastlevaniaaficionados is the inclusion of 14 weapons from the series. Among them: Medusa’s Head, Alucard’s Sword, Holy Water, the Holy Cross, Throwing Axe and of course the Vampire Killer whip. Of course, gaining them won’t be so easy, as the blueprints for the weapons are rare enemy drops.
Castlevaniafans on PS5 will likely be pleased if thishighly praised content does indeed come toDead Cellson their platform. Whether there might be a few extraCastlevaniagoodies to make up for the delay remains to be seen. To be clear, nothing has actually been announced at this point regardingDead Cells: Return to Castlevaniaon PS5, though the possibility of the DLC coming to PS5 is certainly exciting.
Dead Cells: Return to Castlevaniais available on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
