Sadako Yamamura has been horrifying audiences since before “Seven Days” was a meme. The well-dwelling killer girl fromRinguhas a brand of terror all her own, and the Sadako Rising chapter introduced that terror toDead by Daylight.

Sadako, also known as the Onryo, possesses an interesting blend of mechanics. She is able to teleport between televisions using Projection, become invisible using Manifestation, and use Condemnation to push Survivors ever-closer to a special mori. Though her lack of anti-loop mechanics can be a challenge, she is one of the best jump-scare Killers inDead by Daylight. Here are the strongest add-ons for theRinguKiller.

9Cabin Sign

Reduces the time it takes for a TV to turn on after Projection by -12 seconds. Because the normal wait for a television to turn back on after the Onryo Projects to it is so long, anything that helps reduce that wait is good, asit increases her overall ability to move across the map.

Unfortunately, the Cabin Sign is grossly overshadowed by another add-on, the Iridescent Videotape, which is why it doesn’t climb higher into the rankings of kit. Considering it is a Common add-on, however, and thereforea frequent find in Bloodwebs, the Onryo could do far worse than the Cabin Sign.

8VCR

All TVs play the Projection effects when the Onryo Projects to a TV. Because Survivors get a directional warning when the Onryo teleports to a certain television, the Onryo normally gives away her position when teleporting. With the VCR, she can disguise her movements more.

This add-on can be particularly good when paired with Well Water to remain Undetectableand fool Survivors into thinking the Onryo is elsewhere. Unfortunately, experienced Survivors are not fooled nearly as often by this trick as newer ones are, so the utility of this power is somewhat limited when facing better teams.

7Telephone

Survivors witnessing a Manifestation from within 7 meters suffer from the Hindered Status Effect for 3 seconds. This add-on effectively works like the slow-down of the Clown’s Afterpiece Tonic.Unfortunately, it is far less reliable than the Clown’s power, as it is far less certain that a Survivor will witness Manifestation.

Regardless of the map, slowing down Survivors is always useful and shouldn’t be ignored, but the unpredictability of this add-on keeps it from being the absolute best that Sadako has to offer. Nonetheless, the Telephone is a good enough add-on to merit consideration.

6Tape Editing Deck

Each Survivor starts the Trial with a VHS Tape in their possession, and their highlighted TV is the one farthest from their location. Similar to the way the Videotape add-on for the Pig starts all Survivors with Reverse Bear Traps, the Onryo’s Tape Editing Deck causes all Survivors to start the Trial with videotapes in their hands.

Holding a videotape gradually builds Condemnation for the Survivor and eventually makes them susceptible to a unique mori.Though Survivors can withdraw tapes from televisions during normal gameplay to prevent the Onryo from teleporting, wise Survivors rarely bother, preferring not to risk the Condemnation. Anything that forces Survivors to endure at least some Condemnation is potentially game-changing.

5Ring Drawing

Condemned Survivors spread their Condemnation to other Survivors who complete a Healing action on them. Importantly, it doesn’t matter how much Condemnation the healed Survivor had: as long as they have even a single stack of Condemnation, the Survivor who healed them will receive a stack.

Slugging Survivors and stacking Condemnationby teleporting repeatedly to nearby televisions is viable, especially when this add-on is paired with the Iridescent Videotape. Unfortunately, Boon: Circle of Healing is a significant counter to this add-on, reducing its utility.

4Bloody Fingernails

Increases the duration of the Post-Projection Movement Speed boost by +50%. While its effect doesn’t radically alter the Onryo’s utility in the way that the Iridescent Videotape does,Bloody Fingernails has a couple of perks that make it useful.

The speed boost granted by the add-on makes traversal a little faster as she will no longer lose as much distance on Survivors when chasing them after using Projection. If Survivors are greeding a generator or simply fail to notice the cues signaling the Onryo’s arrival, the extra speed from Bloody Fingernails can even let the Onryo land a hit she otherwise wouldn’t have.

3Well Water

Increases the duration of the Undetectable Status Effect by +2 seconds when Manifesting by any means. With this effect, the player no longer has to Manifest right beside a Survivor in order to ensure a hit. Instead, the Onryo can Manifest behind a corner or object and use the stealth granted by the Undetectable Status to secure a stealth hit, much as the Wraith is known for doing.

When coupled with the speed boost that the Onryo receives while emerging from a television, Well Water can award the Onryo with hits she wouldn’t otherwise have landed, particularly around generators.

2Old Newspaper

Increases the invisibility duration after Manifesting by +33%. One of the few add-ons to help the Onryo in chase, this add-on increases the wait between disappearing and reappearing with Manifestation.

Using the Old Newspaper allows the Onryo to mindgame survivors at certain pallets, using the brief invisibility to mask a change of direction, catching Survivors off-guard. Though only the best Onryo players are likely to master the mindgames made possible with this add-on, that doesn’t mean it isn’t impressive, especially for a Common.

1Iridescent Videotape

Hitting a Survivor within 8 seconds after Manifesting turns on the last 4 TVs turned off by Projection. This allows the Onryo to bypass the normal cooldown they suffer from after being deactivated. Because teleporting to a television turns it off with a lengthy wait before it comes back, the Iridescent Videotape considerably increases the Onryo’s ability to travel back and forth across the map.

It can also be oppressive in small maps, where the Onryo is able to quickly build up Condemnation by bouncing from TV to TV. Its end-game potential when combined withHex: No One Escapes Deathis also noteworthy and combines to make the Iridescent Videotape Onryo’s best add-on.
