DC Universe Onlineis adding the high-tech and high-flying Blue Beetle as a playable character. Jaime Reyes is the third in a legacy of heroes that fight crime under the mantle of the Blue Beetle and uses an alien device called the Scarab to form a powerful suit of armor, battle evil with various weapons, and even fly. Jamie is set to make his big-screen debut inthe live-actionBlue Beetlefilm, in which he is played by Xolo Mariduena ofCobra Kaifame.
Before he entered the DC cinematic universe, Jamie Reyes brought his advanced weaponry to several licensed video games, some of which were tie-ins to his appearances inBatman: The Brave and the BoldandYoung Justice. He also had a supporting role in the MOBA titleInfinite Crisis, appeared as a helpful summon inScribblenauts Unmasked: A DC Comics Adventure, and was an unlockable mini-figure inLego Batman 3: Beyond GothamandLego DC Super-Villains.Blue Beetle’s most notable video game outingwas NetherRealm’sInjustice 2, where he aided Batman’s Insurgency in the battle against Superman’s One Earth Regime.

The Jamie Reyes incarnation of Blue Beetle had a minor role in aDC Universe Onlinetie-in comic back in 2011, and now he is being added as a playable character in the game proper as part of its latest update. Starting today, players will be able to summon the Blue Beetle inDC Universe Online, where he can use his powerful energy beams to cut down foes. Jamie’s Aggression Motivator ability marks enemies for the player and their group, allowing them to receive extra health or a power boost when they attack. Finally, Blue Beetle’s Infiltrator Mode increases the player’s Critical Weapon Chance when using a Weapon Buff ability.
DC Universe Onlinewas developed by Dimensional Ink Games and launched in 2011. In this comic-based MMO, players create their own original hero or villain and join forces with iconic DC characters on a multitude of missions and battles. New storylines and campaigns are still being added to this day, such as theBatman and Constantine-focused “Episode 46: Justice League Dark Cursed” chapterthat is coming in October. Furthermore,DC Universe Onlinewill be updated for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S this holiday season.

DC Universe Onlineis available for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions are planned to release Holiday 2023.
