DC games have struggled lately to appeal to fans, whether they released and failed to meet fans’ standards or are still in development and have not showcased anything fans could rally behind.Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguecould end up miraculously changing course and representing a game that Rocksteady’s fanbase can be excited about, but that would take a lot on Rocksteady’s part, and the game is likely to hibernate away from the media until closer to 2024. In the meantime,Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Festis only less than a few weeks away.

Gotham Knightswas not received positively for the most part, and any DC games that revolve around the Batman mythology, in particular, may be setting themselves up for disappointment in the future as a result. It is unknown ifJames Gunn’s DCU planswill affect the DC games that arrive in the next several years, but DC might still have one special title up its sleeve. Previously announced at The Game Awards 2021, Monolith’sWonder Womancannot afford to be brushed under a rug as big-budget Marvel games have their own heyday.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2,Marvel’s Wolverine,Skydance’s Marvel game, EA Motive’sIron Man, and two other EA and Marvel collaborations are currently in development. This demonstrates that Marvel’s run in AAA gaming is nowhere near fatigued, and the possible popularity or success of these games will surely spell the demand for more.

Unfortunately, DC’s own games have been far less anticipated lately. DC has as much potential to create stunning superhero experiences as Marvel, but it seems as if Marvel got an early leap on single-player action-adventure experiences, which DC arguably made a staple in superhero gaming withRocksteady’sBatman: Arkhamseries.

Marvel has had its own gaming blunders, though, withMarvel’s Avengersstanding out sorely, and DC might have found itself buried under the same pursuit of what was trendy in the industry a while back. Live-service multiplayer games in the superhero subgenre are no longer revered, however, and DC needs a transition back to single-player action-adventure as soon as possible. Thankfully,Monolith is already at work on aWonder Womangame.

Separating itself from Batman is one huge boon, butWonder Womanbeing a single-player action-adventure game could be what fans need to board DC’s hype train once again. DC movies and other properties seem to be headed in an agreeable direction, and it would be a shame if DC’s gaming sphere was left behind. Therefore,Wonder Womanshowing up at Summer Game Fest would be an incredible way for DC to keep its foot in the door and remind fans that there is a single-player action-adventure game in development.

Indeed, DC currently has no other single-player game announced. That is unlikely to be the case for long, considering what the reception to its recent attempts at co-op play have blown over with fans. If fans are fortunate,Wonder Womanmight not be the only single-player game that gets a reveal soon, which could help tip the scales in DC’s favor.

Of course, it is likely thatWonder Womancould be reserved for a reveal at a DC FanDome this summer instead, but having it appear at Summer Game Fest would be a great way to not let Marvel steal away all the spotlight. Either way, DC direly needs a win, andWonder Womanwill hopefully be the kind of DC game that fans have longed for sinceBatman: Arkham Knight.

Wonder Womanis currently in development.
