Summary
Daredevil: Born Againwas rumored to feature White Tiger’s MCU debut, and the character will need Matt Murdock’s help.
Long afterDaredevilon Netflix was canceled following its third season, Charlie Cox reprised his role as The Man Without Fear inSpider-Man: No Way Home. Marvel Studios later announced thatDaredevilwould receive a soft reboot and an 18-episode series on Disney Plus titledDaredevil: Born Again. During the writers' strike, the series had to pause production, allowing the executives to watch what had already been filmed. They decided the show needed a move in a completely different direction, so theyfired theirDaredevil: Born Againwriters and directorsand did a creative reboot.
Since it was announced thatDaredevil: Born Againwas undergoing a creative reboot, several rumors about the original plans for the series have been going around. Most recently,CanWeGetSomeToastposted on X that the first arc inDaredevil: Born Againwould have been “The Trial of White Tiger.” It would’ve had White Tiger, a.k.a. Hector Ayala, try to stop a mugging that would turn out to be corrupt cops trying to “silence” an informant before going to trial. Somehow, one of the cops would get killed, and Hector would be charged with murder and defended by Matt Murdock in court.
Presumably,Daredevil: Born Againwould have adapted the similar storylinein the comics called “The Trial of the Century” in Daredevil (1998) #38 - #40. In this story, White Tiger ends his retirement and stops a robbery. While thwarting the robbers, one of them shot a cop who arrived on the scene and fled before more cops could come, making it look like Hector was the one who killed the officer.
This would make sense, asDaredevil: Born Againwas reportedly filmed more like a legal procedural, and Matt Murdock would not suit up as Daredevil until episode 4. In the comics, the storyline is also heavily focused on the trial rather than more action-packed Daredevil fights. Daredevil is not seen much during that arc because he was trying to keep a low profile due to the accusation that Matt is Daredevil. This is distinct fromDaredevil: Born Again’s tragic reason for Matt not suiting up.
For fans still interested in this story and the character being shown, there is no need to worry, as it was reported that they will keep some scenes and episodes already shot. So White Tiger may still appear inDaredevil: Born Again.
