This past week introduced a hefty update intoCall of Duty: Modern Warfarepushing its already large hard drive space requirements even higher. While fans aren’t thrilled about the game’s overall size, the update continued to make the game even better with fixes and new content. This latest patch updated playlists, addednew bundles such as the Classic Ghost skin, and made a few changes to the game mode as well. Unfortunately, one of the changes to the Gulag seems to have hit a nerve with players.

The Gulag is one ofCall of Duty: Warzone’sunique elements to the popular Battle Royale genre. After getting eliminated in battle, players are taken to a prison location to take part in a 1 on 1 battle with another player who was recently killed. The winner gets to return to the battle while the loser will need to be bought back in by their team. To make things even, players typically spawned in with a shotgun or pistol only.

This past week’s update changed the rules a bit asthe weapon pool for the Gulag was changedby removing the old weapons and replacing them with Assault Rifles and Submachine Guns. Intended to be an interesting change of pace as upset the community as players have started to voice their displeasure with the changes on social media and websites like Reddit. Many have already begun to claim these new weapons have ruined the Gulag due to wild hipfire and long distance shots requiring less effort from players.

Others have echoed these sentiments, arguing that these new weapon types are not made for very small environments like the Gulag. With these new weapons, the winner more often than naught is the one who sees their opponent first. Players have begun to call for Raven Software to revert these changes andoffering additional suggestionslike making the Gulag pistols only without stun grenades. However, not everyone feels this way as some have voiced their opinion that this change is a good one and that not everything the developers do will ultimately please everyone.

While Infinity Ward or Raven Software have yet to comment on this latest controversy, Activision has begun to tease Season 4. While it’s still a couple weeks away, recent teases seem to indicate that Captain Price will finally be joining the multiplayer modes as a playable operator. In addition, a recent blog post has also dropped a few more hints including a prototype SMG weapon and the threat of thermonuclear war, something which may link to the recent discoveries ofa nuke hidden inside of Bunker 11on the Verdansk map.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfareis out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
