Fans ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2are calling for the return of a fan-favorite mode from 2019’sCall of Duty: Modern Warfare. Last year’s release ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2saw some strange omissions from the original game, but Infinity Ward has been updating the sequel with returning maps and modes over the past few months.
Infinity Ward’s post-release support for the game has been strong, with therecent release ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2Season 2 Reloadedbringing a host of new additions including a new map, a new weapon, and a new Raid mission, among other small features. The updates haven’t always been perfect, with some of the additions in past updates unbalancing the game’s multiplayer, with one weapon even having to be banned from Ranked Play as a result. Still, the developer’s commitment to maintaining both the base game and its companion,Call of Duty: Warzone 2, has been strong so far, and hopefully, this will continue well into 2023.

In a post made by Reddit user SouthEasternGuy, the mode being requested by players online is theNVG mode fromCall of Duty: Modern Warfare, which brought night vision combat to the game’s multiplayer. Night vision has been a feature of the series as far back as 2007’sCall of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, although it wasn’t always appropriate for every map. The NVG mode made it nighttime on every map and forced every player to use it at all times. While it wasn’t for everyone, there are plenty of players out there who feel it brought a unique twist to multiplayer and would be a worthy addition toCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
Infinity Ward has shown withCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2that it isn’t afraid to dedicate resources to bringing in modes that are niche and could potentially struggle to find a dedicated player base. The developer brought backthird-person mode from 2009’sCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which wasn’t exactly the most played mode back then and hadn’t appeared in anyCall of Dutygame since 2011.
Only time will tell if Infinity Ward decides to bring back the mode in an upcoming update. Currently, there’s no official line from the developer acknowledging the possibility, but with constant updates to the game, there’s no doubt it will begin looking to its previous efforts for inspiration. Already, a lot of its strategy for the game has been to look towards the past, withCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s Shipment 24/7and Shoot House 24/7 constant playlist rotation using two maps from the series' past to keep players engaged.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
