Bill Gates shared a post on his site discussingWordle, some of its clones, and how he plays it. According to Gates, starting sometime in either February or March, he madeWordlea regular part of his morning routine. However, like manyWordlefans, he’s limited by the fact that only one word is available to guess per day onWordle, so he also looks toclones likeQuordleandOctordleto provide additional brain teasers for the day.

However, Gates isn’t just intoWordlebecause it’s a good way to get one’s brain started for the day. Gates also professes to be a fan of the social aspect of it, as he can discuss theWordleword every day with fellow fans.Wordlelets users share their results without giving away the word of the day, which has helped to further boost its popularity. Fans can see how long it took their friends to figure out the word and try to meet or beat that score themselves by guessing it faster.

As with most people, Gates has developed a bit of astrategy for playingWordle. He likes to start with words containing a lot of vowels, like “Adieu” or “Ounce” to see which are in the word. He also likes to think about what consonants commonly go together, like “c” and “h” when solving, which helps to logically narrow it down. However, he admits that there have been times he’s gotten stuck when put in the situation of having solved every letter but one with several potential possibilities still remaining from that single letter.

In addition toWordleand some of its similar spin-offs, Gates is a fan ofNerdle, which is aWordle-like game focusing on mathinstead of language. According to Gates, he’s a bit better atNerdlethanWordle. TheWordleformula has been applied across a wide variety of topics and themes, meaning people like Gates have plenty of options to choose from. WhileWordlemay not be quite the huge obsession it was at launch, it’s easy to check in on daily, which will likely see its popularity continuing for some time.
