When it comes to dishing out bursts of weapon damage inBaldur’s Gate 3, nobody does it like the Rogue. A Rogue that can stick to the shadows gets a unique sneak attack damage mechanic that gives them a threshold that most other classes just can’t match.

This works for both ranged and melee weapons inBaldur’s Gate 3. With a high Dexterity attribute, the Rogue is capable outside of combat as well, capable of stealing, picking pockets, and opening treasure chests. A select few races complement this critical toolset nicely.

Wood Elf

It’s hard to get much better than the Wood Elf for the Rogue. With the maximum movement in the game, getting behind a target is easier for the Wood Elf than anyone else. Rogues absolutely must have the Stealth proficiency and the Wood Elf gets it (as well as Perception) for free.

The immunity to Sleep and the advantage on Charm effects reduce the likelihood of ever suffering from one of the two worst debuffs in the game. If the charactergains inspiration, the Wood Elf Rogue can do incredible damage from range as well with proficiency in longbows.

Drow

Both the Lolth-Sworn and Seldarine Drow have the same statistics with different backstories, so this decision is a matter of player preference. Sharing an ancestry with Elves, the Drow share many of the same advantages, including the important +2 to Dexterity.

With an emphasis on Charisma, the Drow is a better talkative Rogue. Whenplaying with friends, it’s always good to have somebody in charge of conversations and the Drow Rogue is a solid selection. Plus, the Drow have Superior Darkvision and thrive with no light whatsoever.

Lightfoot Halfling

Of the two Halfling options, the Lightfoot is the one that has the Stealth skill, so that’s the natural choice. Like the Drow, the Lightfoot Halfling has the Charisma bonus to use for those great people skills outside of combat.

Whilenavigating the character creation UI, don’t overlook the advantage against Frightened checks. As Rogues are often in melee combat, getting Frightened means running away and provoking opportunity attacks which can ruin the entire encounter. Plus there is the reroll on 1s which will save more than just a few checks during every playthrough.
