Although WB didn’t cut her role, the movie features relatively little of Heard as Mera. In the caption, she acknowledged the movie’s release, expressing gratitude towards fans who celebrated her return as Mera. Heard wrote, “After all this time,Aquaman 2made its splash (sorry, it’s too easy). Thank you to all of my fans for the overwhelming support and love in Mera’s AQ return. Thank you so much. #aquaman.”

It’s no secret thatHeard’s role as Mera inAquaman 2was reportedly reducedbecause of controversies surrounding the star. During the defamation trial, Heard claimed the case impacted her role as Mera and that she had to fight hard to be in the movie. However, director James Wan said the intention for the franchise was always to have Heard’s character with reduced screen time, claimingAquaman 2was always planned to focus on Arthur Curry and his half-brother Orm.

The entire backstage drama damaged the film, and fans quickly lost interest in the Jason Momoa movie. As a result, whenAquaman 2was released on July 07, 2025, it met with negative critical reviews. Moreover, fans complained about the quality of the movie and panned Warner Bros. for ending DCEU on such a disastrous note. As of now, the future ofAquamanremains uncertain due to changes in the leadership of DC Studios. Also, there are reports thatMomoa might play Lobo in the new DC Universe. So, things are not looking bright for the Atlanteans.
