Apex Legendsseason 14 launches in a few days' time, and with it, the original map Kings Canyon is coming back into focus. Game Rant recently attended anApex Legends season 14 press event, where the “what” and the “why” of theseKings Canyonchanges were detailed.
Specifically, Respawn wanted to focus on the map’s overall health andpain points for Kings Canyon, with it determining a variety of factors that go into map health: pacing, timeliness of fights, lulls in matches, how balanced landings are, the overall loot dispersion, and steady power curve. In simple terms, it seems most of the changes to thisApex Legendsmap focus on opening it up and ensuring that some places are not areas where fights can go on too long.

Apex Legends Season 14 Kings Canyon Changes
First and foremost, players will likely notice how much fresher and less muddy Kings Canyon will look. Respawn Entertainment is introducing a brand new Skybox to Kings Canyon that impacts how everything is lit and how everything appears in each match. This is accompanied also by expanding the land mass of Kings Canyon, adding in the new Relic PoI. As fans know, Kings Canyon has been in a “salvaging” state for a while, basically ever sinceLoba destroyed Skull Town, and that salvage work is now complete. It’s not Skull Town, but Relic sees a massive skull sitting over a town. If it essentially becomes the new Skull Town in the meta remains to be seen, but that’s not the goal.
To ensure better matching pacing and firefight length, a number of changes have been made that open up certain areas. Cage, for example, no longer has the top where players can bunker down, snipe, and have a defensive high ground in firefights. Hillside buildings have also been removed, leaving it more open, and Broken Relay has been recreated into Basin. It’ll be interesting to see how these changes impact the game, as well as any other minor changes that went unmentioned.

It should be noted that Respawn Entertainment took a good look at the rotations on Kings Canyon too, adjusting several macro rotations and paths to ensure better map flow. This means opening up some paths, while closing others to ensure that how players rotate is proactive instead of reactive. In other words, it should be about hunting down a fight and not just heading to the sounds of one. Either way,Apex Legendsseason 13 is winding down, and soon Vantage will enter the Apex Games.
