Evolution is a big deal inSlime, with most species/races following evolutionary paths (for example, Ogre → Kijin → Oni → Wicked/Divine Oni). The above info is predominantly based on the anime, rather than the manga or light novel (which are much further ahead).
Rimuru Tempest
A Leader
The awesome protagonistof this epic series is Rimuru, formerly known as Satoru Mikami in his previous life, a human who died and was reincarnated as a slime (hence the name of the show). The little blue blob can shapeshift into many different species, most of which portray gender-neutral characteristics. Rimuru is kind and quirky and has a hard time saying no to a person in need, making him a great protagonist in this fun isekai anime.
With a welcoming nature and a desire to create a haven for himself and other monsters, Rimuru gradually grows into a leader, establishing a city and state that turns the world’s politics on its head. While he has a habit of being reactionary and just doing what his subordinates suggest,That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime’s protagonist can be vicious if a situation calls for it.
Veldora Tempest
Storm Dragon
This incredibly high-powered True Dragon can appear as a mighty beast with wings and fangs, or as a human with blonde hair and tanned skin. Veldora is very feisty and loves to rampage and get violent, though he won’t attack unless it’s appropriate.
True Dragons are immortal, which is why Veldora is so old. He is a loyal friend who trusts Rimuru wholeheartedly throughout their adventures together, and while he has earned a reputation for being a significant threat, this fear is largely exclusive to ill-informed humans and enemies of Tempest. For the most part, Veldora is a reliable and powerful ally who supports his friends.
Souei
Rimuru’s Shadow
This overpowered fighter always keeps a calm and cool demeanor, not showing off his emotions to anyone around him. Souei is very loyal to Rimuru and his team and does an incredible job in his role in the group.
Souei has gone through some serious training, learning, and growing to get as strong and advanced as he is, and he isn’t shy about showing off his impeccable power. Cast as Tempest’s leading spy, Souei has more than lived up to his ninja billing, helping to ensure that Rimuru and his allies remain a step ahead of most of their rivals.
Shion
A Prominent Member Of Rimuru’s Inner Circle
Though she is the leader of the Yomigaeri andone of the strongest fightersunder Rimuru, Shion is quite clumsy. She can also be ditsy and overly naive at times, making her anime iteration one of the more polarizing characters. That said, the manga and light novel versions focus less on fanservice and running gags like her terrible cooking.
Despite her beautiful, gentle appearance, she uses her unimaginable strength to its max any chance she gets. Shion does get somewhat wiser as the story progresses, and she holds Rimuru in such high esteem that she arguably overestimates the protagonist’s abilities at times (as hard as that is to do). She is loyal, fierce, friendly, and a valuable member of Rimuru’s team. At this point,Shion is a Wicked Oni, making her extremely powerful.
Shuna
Oni Princess
Shuna is a short princess who is part of the Ogre tribe. Don’t be deceived by her looks, though, she is a very powerful and strong asset to Rimuru’s group. She is very caring and protective of her loved ones and boasts some very refined manners and a personality to match.
Shuna is incredible at weaving and creating the beautiful garments that she and her older brother, Benimaru, wear as Kijin. While Rimuru’s cabinet has plenty of powerhouses capable of bulldozing their way through armies, Shuna’s contributions revolve around her diplomatic skills, which become progressively more important.
Benimaru
Oni King
Benimaru is very laid back, confident, loyal, and hot-headed. He cares deeply for his younger sister, Shuna, but he’s been shown to have a pretty rough side to him as well.
Though he had reservations about taking over as chief of his tribe, he is a naturally great leader and a strong, efficient military commander. His power is impressive, and his skills are unmatched. Benimaru proved to be an efficient and beneficial member of Rimuru’s team, making him a very important character in the anime series.
Diablo
Primordial
One of Rimuru’s strongest followers and a volatile tactician, Diablo’s background as an Arch Daemon means he is one of the most feared entities in this entire world. Driven by a desire to understand the world’s truth, Diablo (or Noir) believes Rimuru is the key figure in figuring out this mystery, which is why he yearned to become a member of Tempest.
Although a somewhat late addition to the series compared to most ofThat Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime’s main characters, Diablo has grown into one of the most entertaining and central figures in the story. In fact, season 3’s opening episode was dedicated almost entirely to Diablo, showing just how important he has become.
Gobta
A Goblin Who Has Grown A Lot
Gobta keeps his childlike goblin appearance even after being named and transforming into a hobgoblin, making him look extra cutesy and round. He may come off likea goofy airhead, which he definitely acts like on most occasions, but he has great intellect and wisdom that come out in important situations. Gobta trusts his friends above anything else and is a great asset.
Even if he can come across as comedy relief at times, Gobta has gone through an incredible amount of development over the show’s run. He has gradually grown more confident in his abilities and potential to contribute to Tempest.
Ranga
Rimuru’s Good Boy
Ranga is a wolf-dog unlike any other, and he has incredible magic, immense power, and tough abilities to crush his enemies. However, he is still a wolf, so he does thingstypical dogs do, including wagging his tail and licking and getting attention from his master, Rimuru. He is very loyal and incredibly protective, not being super fond of suspicious strangers.
