Whilethere’s more toThe Legend of Zeldathan its protagonist Link,the image of the Hylian hero brandishing the Master Sword has become emblematic of the series. With his trusty Epona, his customary green tunic, and the Blade of Evil’s Bane, Link is a consummate hero, having vanquished evil and saved the world countless times across his various incarnations in the series’ complex timeline.

The legendary Master Sword has made about as many appearances as Link himself, but it’s not always the mighty weapon it seems to be… at least, not at first. In several titles, such asThe Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker(in which Link was originally supposed to age, incredibly)it must be upgraded first. This is also true inThe Legend of Zelda: To Link To The Past.
7Obtain The Titan’s Mitt From Blind’s Hideout
For starters, the player must progress until they reach the fourth dungeon of the Dark World, the imposing Thieves’ Town. Head over to the Village of Outcasts, Interact with that suspect-looking Gargoyle and enter this challenging area.
This short and sweet dungeon culminates in a tense battle against Blind himself. Those floating heads are all kinds of disturbing, but but dodge those fireballs and the Master Sword will soon bring him down.
6Save The Cursed Dwarven Swordsmith
On your way into the Village of Outcasts, you may have noticed a peculiar-looking cursed figure trapped behind huge blocks that Link couldn’t lift. With the strength of the Titan’s Mitt, he now can and it should be gamers’ first priority to do so.

Return to the entrance to Thieves’ Town and proceed a little to the left. Move the block(s) out of the way and the Cursed Dwarven Swordsmith will ask the player to reunite him with his brother. It’ll certainly pay off. Note that the Magic Mirror (given by the Lost Old Man on Death Mountain) is required to turn the swordsmith back to human form.
5Temper The Sword
TheLegend of Zeldaseries is well known for its cast of quirky characters,and these swordsmith siblings are no exception. With the first brother in tow, head over to Kakariko Village (in the Light World now), then enter the building to the east of this area.
This is the brothers’ workshop, and they’re delighted to be together again. So delighted, in fact, that they’ll offer to strengthen the Master Sword for just 10 Rupees! Take them up on this deal, leave the building, return momentarily, and the Tempered Sword/Master Sword Lv.2 will be Link’s. It boasts twice the attack power of the Master Sword.
4Beat The Ice Palace
To acquire the strongest sword in the game, players will have to do quite a bit more work. Having claimed the Tempered Sword, your next move is to collect Crystals #5 and #6. One of these awaits in the Ice Palace, a tricky little dungeon in which the Fire Rod will be a real blessing Keep a cool head (pun intended), take your time with each room, and you’ll prevail over dungeon boss Kholdstare and escape with the handy Blue Mail.
3Beat Misery Mire
After acquiring the Titan’s Mitt, the player can take on the Ice Palace and the next dungeon Misery Mire in whichever order they prefer. They’re ‘supposed’ to be tackled in the order described here, though, so head to the Desert warp spot (number six), pop to the Dark World, and use the Ether Medallion (also found on Death Mountain) to open the door to Misery Mire.

Again, caution is advised here, as there are some tricky hookshot/bottomless pit platforming sections and long-ranged enemies to deal with here. While Vitreous can be a pain with its far-reaching lightning and those eyeballs, well-aimed shots with the bow will dispatch it relatively quickly.
With both these dungeons completed, the player will have access to afantastic itemthat’s crucial to unlocking the final sword upgrade. Head back to the Bomb Shop in the Dark World and you’ll find that the Super Bomb is now available to purchase. Buy one and head to the Pyramid of Power.
On arrival, you’ll notice a very conspicuous crack on the left side of the pyramid. Any gamer worth their salt knows what this means: introduce that part of the pyramid to the business end of a Super Bomb and a secret entrance will be revealed.
1Offer The Fairy The Tempered Sword
Inside the hole players have freshly blown in the side of the Pyramid, they’ll find a fairy. Fairies have long been considered some of the most useful NPCs in the series in their various forms, offering healing and revival for Link, upgrades for various aspects of our hero and his equipment and so on.
This particular fairy has a very special purpose. Offer her the Tempered Sword, tell her you dropped it, and she’ll give Link the Golden Sword. This magnificent blade has double the power of the Tempered Sword, quadrupling the damage Link can wield in comparison to the original Master Sword. It was a little tough to acquire, but certainly worth it. The very strong Silver Arrows can also be obtained here in the same fashion by offering the Bow.
