2022 was a great year for Netflix original series of several different genres. The streaming service also put out many original movies, includingSR., a heartwarming documentary about the incredible life of Robert Downey Jr.s father, and the sequel to Millie Bobby Brown’s Sherlock Holmes storyEnola Holmes. A few of these movies have high ratings on Rotten Tomatoes and these are ones to check out before the year is through. There is defintiely something for everyone.

Hustle - 93%

Sandler plays an NBA scout with bigger dreams of being a coach who forms a bond with a young Spanish basketball player.Hustleis the kind of movie that would appeal to fans of the sport, but there’s also enough charm from Sandler himself to win over anyone. Queen Latifah, Robert Duvall, and Ben Foster also star in this excellent sports movie.
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery - 93%

Knives Outis afunny mystery movieand it’s great that it’s becoming a franchise with a different case in each film. Fans had high expectations thanks to how clever the original movie is. Both movies have all-star casts.Glass Onionactually has 93% on the Tomatometer and the same rating on its Audience Score. Whether someone caught the movie at their local theater or watched it for the first time on Netflix, it’s definitely a good, twisty thriller.
Enola Holmes 2 - 94%
Many of thebest moments fromEnola Holmes 2feature Millie Bobby Brown’s sweet, smart character. Given the anticipation for the sequel to the 2020 film, it’s no wonder that the movie is so highly rated on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie also has a high Audience Score of 78%.
It’s fun seeingMillie Bobby Brown and Henry Cavill again inEnola Holmes 2and theStranger Thingsactor does a great job portraying another brave character. The movie is another perfect story for those who love Sherlock Holmes and Enola is a strong person who is joyful to watch in both films.
The Sea Beast - 94%
With 94% on the Tomatometer and a 84% Audience Score,The Sea Beastis one of the highest rated Netflix movies from 2022. In the computer animated film, the world has sea beasts who are dangerous and huge. Maisie Brumble (Zaris-Angel Hator) hides on a ship and wants to honor her mom and dad, who passed away while hunting. Maisie’s story is sweet and endearing and audiences will want her to do as well as possible.
The Sea Beastbegan streaming on Netflix in June 2022. It has flown under the radar a little and isn’t as well-known as some other releases from the service. It’s akids' movie on Netflix the whole family will love.
Sr. - 98%
After winning over audiences withhis portrayal of Tony Stark/Iron Man in the MCU, Robert Downey Jr. has given the world his most acclaimed project yet: a touching documentary about the life of his filmmaker father, Robert Downey Sr., who passed away on June 14, 2025.
Sr.received widespread critical acclaim and included appearances from other heavy hitters. in the film industry including Paul Thomas Anderson, Alan Arkin, and Norman Lear. It’s a moving look at the filmmaker’s life and career, one which never quite received the recognition it deserved, but clearly holds a place in many diehard film fans' hearts. It’s a touching, personal journey, and Netflix’s highest-rated movie of the year.
