9Plan Ahead
There are four main stats: Fight, Body, Spirit, and Wits, and players need to have a plan regarding the character they want to build. If there’s no planning ahead, characters can become sloppy, inefficient, and won’t prove to be much of an asset.
So first and foremost, players need to determine which characteristics are a good fit for them and choose a corresponding character according to that. This is the easiest way to grow in the game and reach the ultimate goal.

Planning ahead is not complete without factoring in the enemy’s movements and other risk factors. Keeping track of the opponent’s whereabouts, and their victory conditions can make a lot of difference. Of course, players can beat the game by just treading forward as well, but the taste of victory is much sweeter when the road there was smart and calculated. It’s also much faster when players calculate the movements of their opponents.
7Use Cards Often
Using cards often is important if a person actually wants to win the game. Players can only draw as many cards as their Wits stat, so players need to factor this in when they’re planning their path to victory. There are five types of cards (Item, Trickery, Spell, Follower, and Treasure), and four levels (Common, Uncommon, Rare, and Unique.)

Using cardsdoesn’t only mean factoring in the rarity and type of the item, but the character’s attributes and abilities as well. So when using, drawing, and burning these cards, players should keep in mind the abilities and stats of their character.
Some characters are combat-oriented, and some work best with magic, and these are all important information to factor in when drawing a card. And if a player is unsure of what to draw or use, here’s a tip: every character can make use of any of the Follower cards.

5The Four Types Of Victory
There are four types of victory. Combat victory meanskilling the Kingusing the Fight attribute and accumulating weapons. Prestige victory entails that players have the most Prestige when the King falls. Spirit Stone victory can be reached by gathering all four Spirit Stones spread all throughout the map. And lastly, Rot victory means having a higher Rot stat than the King before slaying him.
A player’s journey and the victory type they’re headed towards largely depends on the character of their choice. Each character is better suited or conditions to one type of victory. This doesn’t mean that a type of character can’t achieve any of the aforementioned victory types, it just means that for some it’s easier than others. So if a player already achieved one, and wants to go for the next type, the best investment is choosing another type of character.

4Rot Victory
One type of victory is different from the rest, and that is Rot-victory. This is the only victory that doesn’t have a chance without having a well-rounded out plan from the get-go. Planning ahead is crucial for all victory types, but if someone is aiming for the Rot-victory, they have to go all-in early, or not at all.
Aiming for Rot-victory also changes the gameplay in regards to planning ahead, and calculating risks throughout the game. Characters like Thane or Brun are the best candidates for a Rot-victory.

3Be Aware Of Your Prestige
At the beginning of each turn, the person with the most Prestige holds the power. This means that they get to choose from a list of the King’s Declarations, which changes the rules of the next turn. Having the upper hand when it comes to this decision can change the entire flow of the game.

1Losing A Peril Is Not Always Bad
Especially when going for Rot victory, losing a peril can actually be a good thing when it comes to beating the game. Of course, it’s not something to seek after, but players don’t need to lose hope when perils are lost.
